Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I have very fond memories of Helen, not only as my teacher, but as my children's teacher as well. Helen was a no nonsense teacher who expected you to give your best because she gave her best to each and every student she had. I was fortunate enough to have her as a friend too. She had wonderful stories and was a good listener. Most of all she was a loving and compassionate person and will be missed. Bob was best friends with Helen's son Barry and always enjoyed the times spent at the Skrabek home. Our condolensces to all the family! Helen has left an indelible mark on each life she touched, what a wonderful legacy. - Posted by: Robert & Margie Marsh (Friends/Mentor/Teacher) on: Mar 16, 2014

  • I was a bit nervous going into grade 5/6 because I heard that Mrs. Skrabek was a tough teacher. I enjoyed my 2 years with her as my teacher, though. Students were expected to tow the line. Nothing wrong with that. My sympathies to the family. - Posted by: Barb Eskilson (Strick) (Student) on: Feb 27, 2014

Mrs Skrabek was just a great influence to so many of her students, she definitely went out of her way to help you in anyway she could if you were stuggling in any subject. • I look back and smile when I think of Mrs Skrabek, I remember I had a bad habit of chewing on the tops of my pens so to help break me of the habit she made me put a soother in my mouth every time I went to chew on my pen. Needless to say I stopped chewing on my pens! Her dedication to her students was tireless. She will be greatly missed!! My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Shannon DuPont (Former student) on: Feb 24, 2014

  • We have lost a beautiful soul. Mrs. Helen Skrabek was my teacher, she was a "real" teacher. She would spend her lunch hours helping her students who had difficulty learning something. I used to spend my lunch recess learning my math, especially fractions with which I had such difficulty with, but she never gave up on me. Mrs. Skrabek, I loved you very much and you will be greatly missed. You were one of a kind. A beautiful, loving women. - Posted by: Labell Lacroix (friend) on: Feb 22, 2014

  • I will always know her as Mrs. Skrabek. She was my favorite teacher when I was in grade 5. She always made me feel good about myself and I was very comfortable in her class. I had seen her at a social about 20 years ago (or at least it seems about that long) and it was like the years hadn't even passed from my school days until then. It was so nice talking with her. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends. May Mrs. Skrabek rest now in paradise. - Posted by: Kim Futch (past student) on: Feb 22, 2014
