EDWIN SCHROEDER Peacefully, on February 23, 2014, our beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour. Edwin was born in Steinbach on July 18, 1951 to Heinrich and Anna Schroeder of Randolph, MB. Edwin leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Janet of 41 and one half years; son Gary and wife Tammy and their children Kaitlyn, Kaylee, and Emma; daughter Jolene, sister Debbie (Andy) and daughter Jillian; brother Brian (Shirl) and their children Mason, Madison, Eric and Aiden; sister-in-law Shirley and her children Chris (Leah) and their children, Sherry (Gary) and their children, and Nicole; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Heinrich in 1999 and Anna in 2005, and his brother Harry in 1998. Edwin was baptized upon the confession of his faith on March 9, 1972. He grew up in the New Bothwell area on his parent's farm. His career as a heavy equipment operator began with the RM of Hanover. Over the next number of years, he worked for companies such as Nelson River Construction, Diamond Construction and Southwinds Plumbing & Heating. He was well known and respected in his line of work. Edwin married his sweetheart in July of 1972, first living south of Mitchell. Later in 1978, they made their home on a piece of land along Hwy. 52, where they have lived for 36 years. Edwin started his own business, Schroeder Backhoe Service, in 1979. He operated this business until his health prevented him from continuing the work he loved. We are thankful first to God, who provided peace and comfort in the final weeks of his journey here on earth. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the many visits, prayers and acts of kindness they received from family, friends and especially the "Hydro guys". Ed was very encouraged by the support he received during his illness. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Bethesda Hospital, as well as the Palliative Care team, Dr. Reimer and the many nurses who helped care for Edwin. Your compassion did not go unnoticed. The funeral service for Edwin Schroeder will be held Friday, February 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach CMC Church, 479 Hanover St., Steinbach, with burial at the Randolph Heritage Cemetery. Viewing will be held Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with devotional to follow at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edwin can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030
