JULIANA JOHANNA KROEKER (nee KOOTS) June 13, 1932 - February 23, 2014 After a long and arduous journey with Alzheimer's, our mother Julie passed away peacefully with family by her side. Julie is predeceased by her mother Genowefa Mikolas, her brother Robert Koots and her loving husband of 53 years Jake Kroeker. She is survived by four children, their partners, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her brother Mike Koots, his wife Christa Koots and numerous nieces and nephews. Julie was born and raised in Utrecht, The Netherlands and spoke fondly of childhood memories of skating and swimming. After living through the Second World War in Holland she and her family immigrated to Canada when she was 20 years old. Her young adulthood represented a happy freedom, filled with independence and fun. She would attend dances each weekend, her timeless beauty leaving an impression on many. It was during this time that she met Jake while working at Palm Dairies. She settled into family life by raising four children while working at Grace Hospital then Victoria Hospital. In the years prior to her illness she loved to travel with frequent trips across the border or to warmer destinations. She had a deep love for her children and grandchildren and passed on a strong work ethic and will to succeed. She loved to garden and to spend her summers at Tarryall Resort in Katherine Lake, ON. She is now free to dance again and her kind and gentle spirit will be with us forever. Our family wishes to thank the staff at Bethania Nursing home for many years of love and special care that words cannot capture. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4477 Main St., with interment to follow.
