DR. ARNOLD HARRY ANDERSON 1947 - 2014 Dr. Arnold Harry Anderson was tragically killed in a car accident on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the age of 66. Arnie, as he was known, was born October 27, 1947, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba and spent the majority of his life growing up on Simcoe Street in Winnipeg. He is predeceased by his mother, Laura Richards Anderson; father, Harry Arnold Anderson; and grandson, Gordon Ray Anderson. He is remembered by his wife, Coleen and their seven children; Kirsten (Sean), Matthew (Lisa), Benjamin (Margarita), Tyler (Kristina), Megan (Jared), Breanne and Devin; and his 16 grandchildren with one due in June. He is also survived by his siblings Mair Livingstone (Karl Busch), Dennis (Nellie) and Janet. In 1976 he graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and became a leader and mentor in his chosen profession. Later that year he met and married Coleen and raised their children in St. Andrews, Manitoba. Arnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as a missionary, representing his faith in Toronto, Ontario for two years during 1968-1970. "A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions." This was Arnie. All those who knew him were recipients of his quiet acts of service and kindness. He was a giving and compassionate man with a sense of humor as large as his heart. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2014, viewing at 10:00 a.m. and services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 45 Dalhousie Drive, Winnipeg. Luncheon to follow. • All of us in the optometric community are sorry for your loss. Dr. Anderson was a credit to the profession. - Posted by: Bill Nolan (Busines Colleague) on: Jul 25, 2014

  • Our deepest condolences. We only see Arnie once every year for our family yearly eye check-up but every time we go there it was fun. He will be greatly missed. "the best eye Dr I ever had!" from my son Jashua 9 years old. - Posted by: angela landicho and family (patient) on: Jul 11, 2014

  • We were saddened and shocked to learn of Arnold's passing in February. Greg went to the U.of M. with Arnold. (we never referred to him as Arnie then). After missionary service, for both he and Greg, he came to our home for dinner. He was or would be attending the University of Waterloo for Optometry in the Fall. We were soooo impressed and proud that he had been accepted there, as it is a stellar program and very difficult to get into. However, Arnold was very modest about it, albeit pleased that his career path was now chosen. We were transferred from Winnipeg to Vancouver in 1975, so we only saw him on occasion when we visited our parents. Often he was in a different ward to the one we attended. Arnold was a very kind and sincere man. We send our kindest regards to his family and our sincere condolences for their loss. • Arnie was a quiet and very restrained man. We disagreed many times on many things, however he was always tolerant of opposing views and well respected by all. I remember his daughter well. May his family continue strong in his absence. I will light a cigar for you my freind. I have thought of him many times over the years although we lost touch with one another perhaps over twenty years ago. May waheguru bless this quiet giant of a man.. - Posted by: dr naresh mann (freind) on: Mar 12, 2014

  • So many memories from my teenage years revolve around the Andersons and the Selkirk Branch. President Anderson made church a welcoming place, somewhere I wanted to be--I will always remember his easygoing and friendly personality, his sense of humor, and his confidence in the youth. Genuinely modest about his accomplishments, he was a great man who will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Coleen and family, you are in my prayers. - Posted by: Diana Baty Lawrence (Friend (church)) on: Mar 12, 2014

  • You couldn't be around Arnie for long without having a smile on your face and laughter in your heart. He knew joy and brought it to those who knew him. May sweet memories of the time they shared with him help to fill the hole left by his absence and their faith in God and knowledge of eternal families bring comfort to his family. - Posted by: Vicki Streeter (friend) on: Mar 11, 2014

  • Brother Anderson always had a twinkle in his eye, love in his heart and a joke on his tongue. He made everyone feel comfortable and sure of themselves. No matter what the occasion, he always greeted me with a smile and a handshake. It was a very generous smile, and very sincere handshake. He was the Patriarch of his marvelous, loving, faithful, musical family, even though he said he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket! • I had grown up over the years in the Winnipeg Manitoba Stake going to youth function, youth temple trips, Boy Scout Stake gatherings and even going to Many Points Scout Camp in 1987, the 1989 Interstake Youth Conference. Arnie was there for all of us growing up those years, not only for his own family, but for all of us too. Later in years, going to the Wellington Ward, having Arnie as my bishop was almost as close to family anyone could have. All those invites and get-togehters at his home in St. Andrews and being there for his kids weddings and other socials, it was like a family. Arnie was one big piece of the Winnipeg Manitoba Stake and to many he has touched who live beyond Winnipeg. - Posted by: Noah M.
