MARJORIE ROBENA STEVENS Marjorie Robena Stevens was born on July 27, 1922 in Rosser, MB. She was the third child born to Lorne and Bessie Rutherford. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Alfred Leslie Stevens on March 14, 2004 and her brother Murray died at age two years, four months on June 23, 1919 and brother Bob Rutherford on December 5, 2005. Her mother Bessie died at the age of 104 on December 29, 1996. Her father Lorne died in 1952. Marjorie was raised on the family farm and attended a one room school house. She worked until marriage as the assistant to the secretary treasurer in the Municipality of Rosser. She was a devoted fiancée to Al when he was shot down over Denmark and became a POW in Stalag Luft III. After his return from the war they married September 12, 1945. She supported Al when he attended the University of Manitoba and started his career in education. They adopted their only child Lorne in 1956. Marjorie devoted herself to the marriage and to raising Lorne. She was a kind and caring, wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law and aunt; an excellent baker and gracious hostess to her family and friends. Marjorie loved her church and enjoyed being a CGIT leader. She ensured that Lorne received music lessons and was a constant source of encouragement. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, gardening, the cottage at Victoria Beach, playing the piano and travelling. Marge and Al travelled to Europe on a number of occasions and wintered often in Mesa, AZ and Victoria, BC. They attended many family reunions in New Brunswick and Stonewall, MB. She was always very close to her brother Bob, his wife Mona, and their five children: Ken, Ross, Nancy, Bruce and Beth. Marjorie loved to visit the Rutherford Farms in Grosse Isle and Stonewall. Family was everything to her. Marjorie's family was her pride and joy, she loved her grandsons Lindsey and Lee. Family dinners were her labour of love for as long as she was able. She moved to Deer Lodge Centre in 2000 because of her Alzheimers Disease. She died peacefully on March 5, 2014 surrounded by family. Marjorie will be lovingly remembered by her son Lorne and his wife Lorna; two grandsons Lindsey and Lee; the entire Rutherford family as well as the Branscombe and McLeod families throughout the Maritimes and elsewhere. The family thanks the health care team of T3 and Lodge 7 for their compassionate care. Also thank you to Nancy Orlesky, Beth Rutherford, and Merle Brown for their support on Marjorie's final day. A private family with close friends that recall Marjorie "at her best" memorial service will be held. In her memory, donations may be made to the Neutropenia Support Association Inc., P.O. Box 243 - 971 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 3S7. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Lorne and Lorna .... Even though for so many years, Marjorie's life was not her own, our thoughts go out to you on her passing. I only just realized the date of her passing ... Is that right? 2004?? For a number of years, Hal and I would pick she and Al up on Sundays and take them to church. We thought the world of them. They were so dedicated to one another. We are so so sorry for your loss, but we know Marjorie is in a better place. Our prayers are with you. - Posted by: Coralie and Hal (friends from Charleswoodunitedchurch Church) on: Mar 08, 2014
