ERICA WIEBE (nee WIENS) On the morning of March 8, 2014, Erica Wiebe (nee Wiens), aged 88, passed into glory at the Grace Hospital. Her beloved husband Jack predeceased her in February 2005. Erica was also predeceased by her three brothers, Ted, Abe and Oscar, and only sister Ruth Penner. Erica was born on December 31, 1925 in Glenlea, Manitoba to Abram and Lydia Wiens. Her family moved into the south end of Winnipeg but was still able to enjoy visits to relative's farms in the Glenlea and Elm Creek areas. She attended Victoria Albert and Daniel McIntyre Schools. Erica also attended the then South End Mennonite Brethren Church where she accepted Christ as her Saviour in 1944 and was baptized. She made many lifelong friends there including Jack whom she married in May 1955. Five children quickly followed and were raised in Fort Garry. She will be remembered with fondness and love by her children and spouses Fred and Linda Pauls, Ed and Liz, El and Jon Dyck, Marj and Don Binda, Gerry, 13 grandchildren and spouses, favoured great-grandson, and extended families. A celebration of Erica's life will be held on Thursday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Ave., with a family interment taking place prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery. A viewing for Erica will be held on Wednesday, March 12 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service. The family expresses their sincere thanks to the caring and compassionate staff who helped care for Mom in the last two months. Donations in Erica's memory may be made to Family Life Network (FLN) or CancerCare Manitoba.
