Born: Jan 12, 1923
Date of Passing: Mar 06, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWINNIFRED TWEED OLDERSHAW It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Winnifred Oldershaw on March 6, 2014 at the age of 91. Mom leaves to cherish her memory her children, Robbin Hartwell (Gary), Cathy Turko (Steve), Jim Oldershaw (Debby) and Laurie Clancy (Rick); her grandchildren, Julie Oldershaw, Sean and Maeghan Clancy, Lisa Atkins (Scott), Randy Simpson (Catherine), Jodi Hartwell (Jeff), Lea Rioux (Randy), Casey Oldershaw (Gwen); great-grandchildren Eddie Schott, Wyatt and Kassidy Atkins, Haley and Braden Rioux. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1999, her grandson Craig Simpson in 1988 and her parents Orville and Gladys Robbins. Freddie as she was known, was born January 12, 1923. She lived all her childhood in River Heights and after her marriage to Dad in 1945, for the next 53 years in Norwood. In her early years she modelled for the Eaton's catalogue and was employed at National Trust for many years. She dedicated herself to being a wife and mom. Mom was a wonderful cook, loved knitting, painting, reading and crosswords. She volunteered at the Women's Guild and played bridge for over 50 years with the same lifelong friends. She was a lifetime member of the Norwood United Church. Mom loved spending summers at the cottage with Dad and her family at Lake of the Woods. She was happiest when all the family was together. After Dad passed away in 1999, Mom moved to Fort Garry Place where she made many friends and remained active with bridge, painting and attending their planned recreational functions. When her health began to decline she moved to Seine River Retirement Residence. For the past nine months she has resided at the Golden Door. Respecting Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Seine River Retirement Residence, Golden Door Personal Care Home and Victoria General Hospital for their kindness and support. "You can only have one mother, patient, kind and true; no other friend in all the world, will be the same to you. When other friends forsake you, to mother you will return, for all her loving kindness she asks nothing in return. As we look upon her picture sweet memories we recall, of a face so full of sunshine and a smile for one and all." In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, donations may be made in Freddie's name to a charity of your choice. My Aunt Freddie was so beautiful on the inside as she was beautiful on the outside. I loved spending numerous summers with Aunt Freddie and Uncle Eddie and my cousins Robin, Cathy, Laurie and Jimmy at their home on Ashdale and vacations at Lake of the Woods. The Oldershaw family is the best family ever in the world. Aunt Freddie and uncle Eddie were always so good to my brother Billy and I when we visited Winnipeg coming from the States. Freddie was always loving, caring and fun to be around. Her baking and jelly making was wonderful. I still think about her Sour Cream Pie. Freddie will be missed greatly but she will always be in our hearts forever. Linda West. - Posted by: Linda West (niece) on: Mar 24, 2014

I was sorry to hear of Freddie's passing; though I always think of her as Mrs. Oldershaw. I always remember as a beautiful, dignified woman. I stopped to visit her in Winnipeg about 10 years ago when she was still living in the house on Ashdale. I didn't think she would remember me, but she did. Laurie had been my very best friend in grade school. My sympathies to the entire family - one cannot never replace a mother. I lost mine a few years ago. - Posted by: Jule Ohrt (Friend of family; previous neighbor) on: Mar 21, 2014

Freddie was a person of distinction, always a smile and time for a chat over the fence. Ed and Freddie were there when we were children growing up and when Bill and I moved in as their new neighbours they became our friends. I shall now miss them both. Condolences to Robbin, Cathy, Laurie, Jim and their respective mates. Linda Sparling - Posted by: Linda & Bill Sparling (Friend and neighbour) on: Mar 16, 2014

My sympathy to Robbin and family. I knew your mom from Golden Door when my husband was a resident there. I loved walking in the door and there was Freddie sitting with a huge smile on her face. What a welcoming sight. I also visited with her at the hospital and always had such lovely conversations with her. Her lovely smile will be missed by us all. I hope she and Tony are having some wonderful hands of bridge. - Posted by: Sue Heim (Friend from Golden Door) on: Mar 15, 2014
