EDWARD PICHLYK It is with indescribable heartache that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Ed, who passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the age of 52. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 24 years, Judy; siblings: Garry (Barb), Shelley (Dan), and Paul (Donna); his very special mother-in-law Winnie Morken; in-laws: Ken (Cindy) and Lori (Brian); nieces and nephews: Justin (Christine), Jasmin, Corey, Kyle, Kara (Vince), Kaine, Riley, Bryce, Paetyn, Jeremy (Kristy), Jamie, Darrell, and Todd (Anita); great-niece and nephews: Dylan, Kaidence, Kinley, Jacob and Damen; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues. Ed is predeceased by his parents Paul and Oleana, Judy's dad Harry, and his four legged buddies: Frisco, Benny and Tonka. Ed was born on September 19, 1961 in Vita, MB. He grew up on the family farm in Sundown where he attended grade school and then went on to graduate from Shevchenko High School in 1979. While growing up on the family farm, Ed acquired a strong work ethic and passion for farming. At the age of 18, Ed moved to Winnipeg for the next chapter of his life where he met and fell in love with the girl of his dreams, Judy Morken. They lived in St. Vital and ventured to Sundown regularly enabling Ed to continue farming with his mom and dad. On August 19, 1989, they were married. A grand celebration of their 25th Anniversary was in the works. They were also looking forward to retirement at their home in Arizona. Ed began his construction career in his early 20s alongside his dad at BACM eventually moving on to Nelson River, Mulder and Diamond. In the spring of 2006, Ed founded Hy-Way. Along with so many skilled people, Hy-way grew so quickly, we can only imagine how far Ed would have taken it and we will do our best to make Ed's dreams come true. Every day of Ed's life was lived to the fullest and he was passionate in everything he did. Ed touched so many lives and will be missed immensely by all who knew him. Prayers will be said on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Ascension, Sundown, with interment at the Parish Cemetery. If friends so desire they may make a donation in Ed's memory to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation. VICHNAYA PAM YAT Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

Condolences & Memories (24 entries)

  • I just found this now, 5 years after your loss. God bless Ed's memory! I have been working on a family tree, and my mother was from Vita area, with an aunt on her mother's side married to a Pichlyk. I googled the name and found Ed's obituary. My mother's aunt was Anna (nee Sobistianski) Pichlyk, married to Anthony Pichlyk. She had Parkinson's. Her children were Peter (married to Helen); and Helen (married to Gerry Shwedyk.) Is this your family?... would you be able to help me connect to any of them? - blessings to you. Sr. Christine - Posted by: Sr. Christine Dudych, SSMI ( ... maybe distant cousin?) on: Jun 07, 2019

  • Dear Judy, So shocked and sorry to hear about Ed's passing. Much too young. I'll always remember your Eddie Judy, such a fun, friendly guy (great baseball player) and the mixed tournaments in Sundown/Piney were a blast(in our younger days) and you were always there Judy to cheer him on. It's been many years since I've seen you. Find strength and comfort in all the great memories you had with Ed. He will never be forgotten. Thinking of you Judy during this difficult time. • I remember "Eddy Pickles" in high school, although he was a couple of years older, he included everyone regardless of status in high school. I also remember him as a strong athlete, tall dark and handsome, a great laugh, and easy happy go lucky guy. He and Judy were a beautiful couple and many many years together, and I know a ton of fun filled memories! It is great to read the tributes of others who valued his friendship, and knew him to be such a generous and sincere person. Hugs to you Judy as this difficult time, I hope you can find some peace in knowing how many people thought lovingly of Ed. - Posted by: Gwen Bryson ( MacLean) (School Friend) on: Mar 24, 2014
