FREDA JANE HOLMBERG It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother (in-law), grandmother and sister, Freda Jane Holmberg on March 19, 2014 at her home in Concordia Place. Mom was predeceased by her husband George, her daughter Shelley, her son-in-law Norman and ten brothers and sisters. Left to mourn her loss are daughters Melody (Nick), Candace (Ray) and Leanne, grandchildren Nicole, Paul, Jessica, Alyssa, Janine, Rebecca and Cristin, great-grandchildren Ava, Carmen, extended family Jakeb and her sisters Alma and Helen, her brother Edmund. Mom was loved by everyone who met her and made many friends throughout her life, beginning in Sebright where she was born to Julianna and William Best, Tyndall where she and Dad lived most of their lives, East and West St. Paul and recently, in Winnipeg. Raising a family, she was a true homemaker and loving mother, giving up her own comforts to ensure that her girls had what they needed. She kept a spotless house, sewed, baked the most wonderful cinnamon buns and kept beautiful vegetable and flower gardens in the summer. She always helped others, whether it was lending a hand with chores, driving a friend to an appointment, being an amazing listener and lending her support to those in need. Once we were grown up, she began to work outside the home, first at Macleod's in Beausejour and then as an interpreter dressed in period costume, at Lower Fort Garry. To secure a permanent position with Parks Canada, she successfully completed her grade 12 education and became a supervisor and mentor for staff who worked in this historic park. This sparked her interest in history -- reading books, visiting local attractions, and travelling extensively to England, Wales, Mexico, Hawaii, Panama and many U.S.A. destinations, site seeing and visiting museums and art galleries. Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 14, 1995 and were joined in Tyndall by their brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, children and grandchildren who lived across Canada and the U.S. and friends in a family reunion and celebration. Mom lost her mobility from a stroke she suffered in 2012 and since then, enjoyed Sunday dinners with family, a summer trip to Hecla Island, Rainbow Stage and trips to Assiniboine Park and Kildonan Park. She developed a love for polar bears and was looking forward to seeing the Journey to Churchill this summer. Mom has been cremated and she will be laid to rest in Tyndall Cemetery, Tyndall, Manitoba on May 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Mom's life will take place at Assiniboine Park Conservatory from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. that afternoon. Our family would like to extend our appreciation to the nurses and health care aides on the 4th floor of Concordia Place, who took such exceptional care of Mom in her last days. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Assiniboine Park Conservancy, the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 339-5555

  • Freda was such a loving, caring wonderful woman. A beautiful woman inside and out. I am so blessed to have shared some wonderful memories in her life. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. My prayers are with Freda and her family. - Posted by: Penny West (Friend) on: Mar 24, 2014

  • I will especially miss Freda's phone calls. She was very special to my Mom and Dad (Bob & Juliette Simpson) and when they passed away, she began phoning me to talk about them and check on the family. It is another chapter of their lives that is now gone and I will miss very much. My sympathies to all the family. - Posted by: Denise Wawryk (friend) on: Mar 24, 2014

They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories.
