MARGUERITE RITA EMILIENNE MARIE PETIT (née LAFORTUNE ) April 4, 1923 - March 21, 2014 Peacefully on Friday afternoon and two weeks shy of her 91st birthday, Margot passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital with family by her side. Marguerite leaves to mourn sister Ida Appelmans, sister-in-law Fernande Masse-Lafortune, and in Vancouver, sister-in-law Eva Petit (Jolicoeur) as well as brother-in-law Joseph Petit and wife Julie (Suderman). Mom is survived by daughters Gisèle and Anita Ritchot (Michel) and sons Richard (Joanne) and Jean, two grandsons George Ritchot (Lucy) and Jarrett Petit, four granddaughters Rachelle Wildfang (Henry), Jennifer Petit (Mike), Jonelle Hupé (Patrick) and Brigete Donnelly, as well as three great-grandchildren Kadden and Hailey Wildfang, and Dominic Hupe, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marguerite is predeceased by daughter Georgette (July 16, 1952), brothers Joseph (Elsie), Marcien (Juliette), Hubert and Edouard, sisters Irène (William Clifford), Berthe, Jeannette (Felix Cormier), Cécile (Marcel Phillipot), Thérèse (Clifford Sutherland), Yvonne (Roger Brodie), brother-in-law Frank Appelmans, sisters Georgette (George Forbes), and Anita (Dan Balzer). Marguerite is also predeceased by her husband's family, Maurice and Emma (née Dumaine) Petit, brothers-in-law, Oscar, Gerard, Jules, sister Annette Pallard and sister Jeannette Hawka and husband Mike. Margot was the 10th of 14 children born to Georges and Eugénie (née Guay) in La Broquerie, Manitoba. Margot, along with most of her family, made up the church choir and their talent was appreciated by the parishioners and attracted followers from Steinbach and rural environs. Marguerite spent her formative years in education at St. Joachim School, La Broquerie, and took Normal School at Wesley College (now University of Winnipeg). Mom and Dad met on the bus while going home to La Broquerie weekends off and dad convinced his "Sweet Tomato" to marry him on May 27, 1950, during the big flood. After their children were born, Mom went back to work as a dental assistant for Dr. Roy Spink. She also worked for 14 years at Eaton's in the fur storage department. Mom was more than willing to give of herself to her family and friends. Margot was a very pious, selfless and outspoken woman. She spent near 30 years volunteering at Action Marguerite (then Taché Nursing Centre) and was a voice for the aged, afflicted and the infirm. It is impossible to put into words how much Mom will be missed and the immensity of the hole her passing has left in our soul. La famille remercie le Père Roland Lanoie pour ses services spirituels. Funeral will be held Friday, March 28 at the St. Boniface Cathedral, 190 avenue de la Cathédrale with viewing and mass at 10:00 a.m. Desjardins 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca
