Date of Passing: Mar 25, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER ROY DOYLE It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Doyle announces his passing on March 25, 2014 at Betel Home in Selkirk. Surviving Roy is his son Trevor (Susan), his daughter Tannis and two stepdaughters, Lindsay (Garry) and Wendy (Louie). He is also survived by his sister Marge Cloake (Greg), their daughters and families. He loved his grandkids above all else and they are Jennifer, Grant, Sara (Adam), Allyson (Matthew), Jayda, Nick, Danielle and Chase. He is also survived by his great-grandson Ryan and Ryan's soon to be born sibling. Roy would also like to mention Trevor and Tannis' mother and his good friend Edna Doyle. Roy was predeceased by his parents and his wife Joan Doyle. Roy was born on January 8, 1929 in Beulah, MB. He often described a hard life growing up during the depression and losing his father at a young age. It gave him a strong work ethic and taught his value of a dollar. He worked many jobs during his lifetime, most notably at the CN Railroad and lastly at Stony Mountain Penitentiary where he retired from in 1988. His retirement was spent with golf, golf and more golf, either in Teulon and later Inwood. He had a foursome going almost everyday! He loved playing cards and was Garry's partner at many crib tournaments in Gunton. They even took first place once, something he was very proud of. Roy moved into Gateway Manor when he sold his home. He soon made friends and was always called on to drive his "ladies" around. In 2011 Roy had a bad fall and had to move to Betel Home in Selkirk. He hated giving up independence and his car, but realized he couldn't do it on his own anymore. Roy would have liked us to mention his time as a Mason and a Shriner. He spent many years working security at the Shrine circus. His family would like to thank the nurses and health care aides at Betel Home in Selkirk for taking such good care of Dad while he was there. Your compassion and sense of humor made everything he went through so much easier. Your many kindnesses to his family while we were there with him was much appreciated. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations made to Betel Home in Selkirk, Gateway Manor in Teulon and the Parkinson Society of Manitoba. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Home in Teulon. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME TEULON 204-467-2525 mackhome@mts.net

Roy was a true gentleman. He genuinely cared about people and will be missed greatly. I worked with him at Stony Mountain where his strengths were demonstrated on a daily basis. One of the best bosses I ever had. May you rest in peace Roy and keep a chair open for me at the crib table. - Posted by: Lorne Landry (Former co-worker & friend) on: Apr 11, 2014
