MARIA LUIESE (MARLIES) KLASSEN December 27, 1953 - March 31, 2014 Mom, it is with great sadness and love that we say goodbye to you; wife of Otto Klassen, mother, Oma, daughter, sister, teacher and friend. You were our fearless leader, guiding us along life's path. What are we going to do without your Sunday lunches, bike rides to The Forks, coffee at Sorrento's, Thursday night choir practices, crepes at lunch, before school piano practices, Jeporady followed by Wheel of Fortune and just those inspiring phone calls full of wisdom and peace to settle our nerves throughout the day? Mom, you filled your home with God's love, music and laughter and by doing so passed the torch onto us. We found a letter of yours that you sent ten years ago that are words to live by: My words alone cannot express how much love I feel for you. I want to thank all of you for that. "There is only one real deprivationand that is not to be able to give one's gifts to those one loves most." May Sarton "So, thanks from the bottom of my heart for all those gifts. May God continue to be gracious to all of us, granting us time together. Love Marlies" We love you Mom and all the gift of time you gave us. You left us too soon. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street. Longer notice to follow in Friday's edition.

  • While I am vacationing in New Zealand visiting my family here, I heard this very, very sad news about Marlies. My prayers and thoughts are with you, Otto, and all your family, and all the Fast family, as well as the Klassen family (Irm & George, etc). Marlies was a ray of sunshine everywhere she went! • Otto and Family, Marlies exemplified the true meaning of integrity to everyone. Raymond appreciated the Klassens in many ways. Words can't express how sad I am. I will forever remember Marlies and the Klassen Family. Stand tall during this difficult times. - Posted by: Raymond Kelly ( (neighbor and friend )) on: Apr 03, 2014

  • Otto and all family. We are very shocked by this news. We never expect something like that right now, but we donĀ“t know what are the God's plan, and for sure she is enjoying being with Jesus our saviour. For that reason we are sure that your hearts have been strengthened right now. We sadly go to miss her cheerful face, her sweetness, her desire to serve, her love to God, her devotion to his family, the taste of her food, and that corner in her heart that she gave it to us. God bless you family. David, Bileyi and family. - Posted by: David Bahamon (Friend) on: Apr 03, 2014

  • Otto and family; We were so very very sorry to hear of the sudden loss of your dear wife and mother. We never had the privilege of meeting Maria but whenever you spoke of your wife Otto your face would always light up. Know that your faith and family will help you through this. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. Wayne and Linda Major - Posted by: Linda Major (Co-worker/friend) on: Apr 03, 2014

  • Marlies, you were my boys (Jerrad Guenther & Brysen Guenther) nursery school teacher. They loved you and who didn't? You were a ray of sunshine, a rainbow at the end of a rain. I know your family will miss you dearly. Peace comes from knowing you are in God's home now and watching and praying for all those dear to you. May your family be still and just feel your love and presence from heaven. Give them strength to carry on your memory here on earth. Allow Otto to be your wings throughout his life here on earth. You were loved and will be missed by all those who's lives you touched. - Posted by: Wendy Tomm (Acquaintance) on: Apr 03, 2014

  • Marlies was such a positive example to our children when she first became a teacher at Springfield Heights Nursery School. They benefited greatly from her shining example of God's love. I especially appreciated her these past few years as a member of the North Kildonan car pool to F & L rehearsals. We will always remember her happy, thoughtful ways. May God comfort the family. - Posted by: Betty Rempel (friend, fellow singer, parent of two nursery-school students) on: Apr 03, 2014
