JOELLE RIOUX
Born: Jul 01, 1970
Date of Passing: Mar 25, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOELLE RIOUX July 1, 1970 - March 25, 2014 After a courageous 14 year struggle with depression, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, fiancée, daughter, sister and friend at the age of 43 years. She leaves to cherish her memory the two loves of her life, her children Nicollette and André Saucier, her fiancé Rob Wardrop, her parents Phil and Lyse Rioux, her brother Marc (Sherry Delorme), and her sister Natalie (Norm Gosselin). She also leaves her much loved niece and nephews Robert and Christian Rioux, Raymond, Capri, and Gerald Gosselin. She will be deeply missed by Isabella Wardrop, Rob's daughter, in addition to the Wardrop family and many other relatives. In spite of her health challenges, Joëlle was an amazing mother, friend and social worker, everyone who was touched by her knew of her love and compassion. She was giving in nature and this was evident in her last position with Children's Disability Services where her co-workers and clients spoke very highly of her. Joëlle enjoyed vacationing in Mexico with family members, and simple pleasures such as spending time in her hot tub, or whipping up a gourmet meal or barbecue to share with family. As much as her family was her true joy, Joëlle also loved to spend time with her cats, and golden retrievers Duke and Daisy. Thank you to Ray and Pauline Rioux for their help, love and caring for Joëlle; to Shirley Rochon for her grace, love and support during our time of need; to the staff at Victoria Hospital ICU and especially to Dr. Louis Smith who never gave up on her. Thank you to all those who took a moment from their lives to share the burden of our sorrow with us either with a kind gesture or simply with their time. We note Nicollette and André's friends who stayed at the hospital late into the night. Another very special muchas gracias to our wonderful Mexican friend Luis Arteaga who flew in to be with us in our time of need. Father Kevin Bettens will preside at a celebration of her life at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive in Winnipeg, on Friday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. Internment of her ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice in Joëlle's memory. "A bientôt, Mom (Jojo)" LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220.

I just learned of Joelle's passing and I wish my deepest sympathies to her family. You had a huge positive impact in our lives. I can't thank you enough for all you have done. My prayers are with your family and I hope they hold on to the precious, wonderful times that you shared with them. Depression is such a tough illness. I was a pregnant teen. I had several social workers & didn't like any of them. Then Joelle came along!(14 years ago) WOW!! She was truly amazing! She was the best! So caring, understanding, truly genuine. She visited me on my 18th birthday and then again about 4 years ago. She encouraged me to buy a house & made me believe I was capable to achieve such a goal! In April I started my journey to be a social worker and have been looking for her....I search online from time to time, and am truly saddened by the loss. I would love to visit her gravesite to thank her for helping me!. Joelle you will be soooo missed!! - Posted by: Sara Klippenstein (she is the BEST social worker !! Joelle came into our life in 2010 and remained there until January 2013. Joelle would always take time to listen. She had a beautiful smile that ran from ear to ear and it will never be forgotten. Joelle became my grandson's disability worker and helped us attain goals that otherwise may not have been achieved. In this life we were blessed to have known her and it will definitely leave a void in our life. Through time I considered Joelle to be my friend and she will be sadly missed by all of us. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to her family and relatives - Posted by: Sandra Boyd/Michael (client) on: Apr 12, 2014

Joelle was my autistic daughter's social worker. Joelle always exemplified the highest of professional standards and the most thoughtful and kindest behaviour sets I have ever observed. Thank you Joelle, for you compassion, hard work and the extra mile you would go for our neediest members of society. If I did not say thank you enough in life, thank you, and may your reward be where you stored it up - you will be rich and you will be missed in this life. God bless you, sweet lady. - Posted by: Mark Zoldy (Joelle was my daughter's social worker.) on: Apr 10, 2014

I am saddened to hear of Joelle's death. I take comfort in knowing that despite her personal challenges, she did the very best she could to love and support her children, her family, Rob, and his daughter, Isabella, and many friends. I am left with the feeling that Joelle was a beautiful soul who wanted only the best for everyone, but was disappointed when she wasn't able to live up to the high expectations she had on herself in providing service and support for others she loved so dearly. If there was only a way to have let her know, that what she did was more than enough, and in every sense, all is well. God bless you, Joelle, know that you are loved by many. - Posted by: Duncan Michie (Coworker of Joelle and Rob) on: Apr 09, 2014

As the parent of a special needs child I felt blessed to have had Joelle as our social worker. She was so kind and helped us navigate the often scary world of disability services. Though I never met her in person our frequent emails and phone calls made me feel like I knew her and she definitely knew us. Her insight was what I will remember the most, she could "see" what we needed by being a great listener and compassionate person. Our heartfelt condolences to her family and the families, like us, who were touched by her. - Posted by: Fatima Gurney (mother of a client) on: Apr 09, 2014

In the morning, the Light shines softly. My body and I wake up. During the day, the Light shines brightly and charges every cell of my body with LIFE. My body is strong!! I am surrounded by Light! In the evening, my body is weary and must rest. Gently, the Darkness arrives. The Light and I whisper 'good night' and leave the still room. The Light and I belong together. We become ONE. Hand in hand, we dance forever among the stars to the music of Joy. I am eternal Rainbow Light. - Posted by: One who remembers () on: Apr 08, 2014

Joelle, my friend from across the field! That was always our big joke as teenagers, that we would build a road across the field to join our two houses to make it easier to visit each other. Though we had drifted apart in the last few years, she was never far from my mind and always in my heart. Always a smile on her face and a kind word from her lips, Joelle had a beautiful, generous and loving heart. She was a very special person and one of my truly good friends. How fortunate I am to have had such a friend in my life! My heart and prayers go out to her family and loved ones. May it give you courage and strength to know that she is truly one of God's angels. I will miss you my little friend! - Posted by: Lise Turenne (friend) on: Apr 08, 2014

Joelle and I facilitated the attachment groups together while we were in the adoption program. She was so wonderful and interested in anyone who had a story to tell. I hadn't seen her for a few years and then we ran into each other at the airport a few weeks ago when she was returning from Mexico. We spent time catching up and Joelle was beaming as she spoke about Nicollette and Andre. She was so proud of both of them, but still asked me about my family. Joelle was a kind, thoughtful and beautiful person. Rest in Peace Joelle. You will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Fae (Friend) on: Apr 06, 2014

Joelle, there may be no greater gift than the life lessons that emerge from sharing each others own struggles and joys. One of the greatest gifts you gave me was the journey we shared together. Joelle was a beautiful person inside and out. Joelle always took time to say hello and to listen to what someone had to say. She would go out of her way to make you feel welcome. I always appreciated her for that. I wouldn't see her for a while, and when I did she made it very easy to reconnect. This was one of her many gifts. When we spoke, she would tell me about her children and how proud she was of them. She always spoke with love in her heart. She never lost a chance of saying a kind word. Joelle will be greatly missed. She was a very special person. Praying for the family. - Posted by: Nichelle Doerksen ( Hebert) (Childhood Friend) on: Apr 05, 2014
