Neil was born on October 25, 1922 in Snowflake, Manitoba to Leslie and Myrrha Rinn. He lived in Snowflake until he enlisted in the army. He served with the Winnipeg Rifles in both England and Holland during the Second World War. After the war he worked building annexes and elevators along the rail line in Southwestern Manitoba. He and his brother Milt also played baseball with the Snowflake Baseball Club from 1948 to 1953. Their team was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in June of 2006. Neil started employment at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary in December 1954 and was employed there as a correctional officer until his retirement in December 1981. He was married to Isabel in 1960 and moved to Stonewall where they lived until 2002. He and Isabel enjoyed camping and fishing so much that they went to Kenora and fished on their honeymoon. They spent many summers in their trailer - always opening it up on Mother's Day weekend and not shutting it down until Thanksgiving. They also enjoyed travelling and managed to tour Canada from east coast to west as well as large parts of the US. They travelled to Ireland in their 70s, and Neil was able to see the area his family had immigrated from. Neil and Isabel moved to Brandon in 2002. Neil is survived by his daughter Kristy Tufts (Leonard) and by his son Kelly; grandchildren James Rinn (Amber), Trevor Rinn, Warren Rinn (Christine), and Kira and Lane Tufts; as well as great-grandchildren Charlie, Jackson, Maya, Serena and Kate Rinn, and his sister Doreen. He was predeceased by his wife Isabel and son Jim, as well as his parents and siblings George, Vernon, Milton, Muriel and Orval. Funeral service for Neil will be held at Mackenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Stonewall on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Association for Community Living, Interlake Branch, Box 1222, Stonewall, Manitoba, R0C 2Z0.
