Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH "LILY" HOLMES (nee CRITCHLOW) On Monday, April 7, 2014 "Lily" Elizabeth Hannah (Critchlow) Holmes passed away at the the Seven Regions Health Centre in Gladstone, MB at the age of 92 years. Left to celebrate her memory are her three children, Albert (Ann) Holmes of Kenora, ON, Linda Holmes of Calgary, AB and Ken (Connie) Holmes of Elie, MB, her eight grandchildren Carla (Casey) Wilson McLean, Jim Wilson, Kylee (Tom) Houlahan, Brett Holmes, Matthew (Laura) Mitschke, Paul Mitschke, Ryan (Kyla) Holmes and Kelly Holmes; her five great-grandchildren Jaden McLean, Dylan McLean, Zachary Houlahan, Everett Houlahan, and Nash Holmes as well as and numerous nieces and nephews. Lily was predeceased by her husband James Henry Holmes and her daughter Elaine Wilson. Lily was born on December 17, 1921 in Firdale, MB, and lived in the Palestine area of Manitoba her entire life. She enjoyed working at Dewar's Bakery as a teenager, which probably started her love of baking. On December 19, 1941 she married "James" Henry Holmes and started a family. Lily and her husband Jim farmed in Gladstone, MB with the assistance of their four children, until Jim's passing in 1983. Lily was very active in the community, and belonged to the All Saints Anglican Church in Gladstone, along with Order of the Royal Purple, the Rebekahs, the Gladstone Legion and the Orange Lodge. Lily worked for many years in the Paris Café in Gladstone until her retirement. Lily will be loving remembered for her love of her family, her huge garden of vegetables and flowers, her canning, her delicious angel food cakes, and her love of sports, particularly hockey and curling. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the All Saints Anglican Church, Box 578, Gladstone, MB R0J 0T0 or to Central Plains CancerCare Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1N1. The Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the All Saints Anglican Church, Gladstone with Fr. Shane Bengry officiating.
