Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROY PLUMPTRE March 6, 1933 April 13, 2014 It is with deepest sadness we announce that Roy Plumptre, dearly loved husband of Alice (nee Jorheim), his wife of 59 years, passed away on April 13, 2014 at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by his son Jim (Marina), daughter Darlene (Mike), granddaughters Nicole and Samantha, sister Mary Ellen, and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. He is predeceased by his parents James and Mary, sister Joan and brothers Albert and Henry. Roy also leaves to mourn many friends gathered over the years. Roy lived almost his entire life in the Interlake area. He was born in Inwood, and he and Alice moved to Teulon in 1965 to raise their family. Roy was an auto mechanic until he changed vocation in 1957 and embarked on a career culminating as a supervisor in production management for Standard Aero Ltd. He retired in 1992 after 35 years. Roy held a Nidan (second degree black belt) in Judo. He coached Judo in Eriksdale, ran the Teulon Judo Club from 1969 to 1981 and operated the University of Winnipeg Judo Club from 1974 to 1985. In addition he coached baseball for many years. After retirement Roy travelled extensively even making it as far as New Zealand. In his spare time he created wonderfully artistic objects out of metal and iron in his workshop. He was also very musically inclined. He enjoyed playing the guitar and could sometimes be coaxed by friends to play the accordion for them. He and Alice immensely enjoyed listening to their favourite records together in the evenings and their leisurely Sunday afternoon drives in the country. Roy particularly looked forward to his weekly coffee groups with numerous friends in Winnipeg and Inwood. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital for the outstanding care Roy received and also to the many who gave heartfelt wishes and numerous calls of deep concern for him during his illness. As per Roy's wishes, no funeral service will take place. After cremation, Interment will be private. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, a donation to the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital in Roy's name will be most appreciated. Dad - I can't believe you are gone. It has taken me this long to write. I guess I haven't accepted it yet. We miss you so much. I miss my weekly visits after work - when I walked in the door, you would already have the water boiling in the kettle, and my cup, tea bag and spoon ready so I could make myself a cup of peppermint tea. I miss our talks about "The Big Bang Theory" - you, Sam and I would laugh so much, and you would laugh so hard that there'd be tears in your eyes. I miss discussing our respective gardens - you would always keep my family stocked with carrots, peas and beans (my garden could not match yours). I miss talking about Sam and her accomplishments with you. I miss seeing you and Mike going outside at your house and checking out new equipment you'd bought; and listening to both of you talking about cars, planes, military conflicts, investments, politics. I miss all of this and so much more. I think of you all of the time. We wish you were still here with us. Love you. - Posted by: Darlene, Mike, & Sam (Daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter) on: Jun 09, 2015
