STEVE TURCZYN August 12,1921 - January 9, 2014 Steve passed away peacefully in the early evening of January 9, 2014 at the Concordia Hospital with his family at his side. He was in his 93rd year. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Judith of Winnipeg, son Bob (Vivian), grandson Jason Turczyn (Lana) and great-grandson Jaxon all of Saskatoon, granddaughter Andrea (Rob) Armstrong of Regina, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Olga and Peter Wasechko of Winnipeg, special niece Sylvia Burdey and her family. Dad was predeceased by his wife Anne on July 7, 2012 after 66 and a half years of marriage, his parents John and Sophie, sisters Anne and Mary and Mary's husband Willie Jonsson. Dad was born at home on Pritchard Avenue in the north end on August 12, 1921. He was employed by The CNR from 1939 until his retirement in 1982. During this time he enlisted in the RCAF on June 18, 1942. Steve's position was an instrument mechanic and he served overseas from December 15, 1943 to October 21, 1945 when he returned home to marry the "Love of his Life" Anne on November 21, 1945. Upon returning Dad resumed his position at the CNR as a Carman. He was a very meticulous carpenter and because of his skills he was selected to work on many special projects. He also crafted many items for our home in his basement workshop. Dad and Mom loved to travel, taking us everywhere they could in Canada and the U.S. In addition, they travelled to Western and Eastern Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Texas, Florida and more. Many of their travels were to participate in one of their loves - square, round, and pattern dancing. Dad enjoyed curling in his early years. He was a member of Rossmere Golf & Country Club for over 40 years and achieved "2 holes in 1" in his lifetime. After retirement, Dad and Mom settled on Mesa, Arizona as their winter home for over 15 years. When travel became more difficult they chose Victoria, BC as their winter get-away spot. Dad enjoyed living at Concordia Village for the last seven and a half years, especially enjoying his daily walks through the grounds and hallways. He also enjoyed working on word search puzzles and Sudoku. Dad was a quiet, family man, kind, sensitive and with a great sense of humour. He was a true gentleman. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Firefighters and Paramedics as well as the staff of the Concordia Hospital for their kindness, care and compassion. The celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday April 26, 2014 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St. Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1M3, or a charity of your choice.
