GEORGE FEHER On April 23, 2014 surrounded by his loving family, George peacefully passed away at home. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, son Chris (Linda and family), daughters Bonnie (Karl), Cathy and Sandra and grandchildren Kyle (Rhia), Jennifer (Adam) and great-granddaughter Cassidy. Also survived by sisters-in-law Marjorie, Audrey, Shirley, Irene, Gloria (Ed), brother-in-law Gordie (Anita) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Sarah, daughter Cindy in 1985 and sister Irene, brothers Ernie and Frank. George was born on October 1, 1926 in Winnipeg at St. Boniface Hospital and grew up in Giroux, MB for 14 years where his father owned a hardware store close by. George attended a private Catholic school in grade 10 at nearby St. Anne's. The family moved into Winnipeg and George attended St. Paul's College. After graduating from St. Paul's he went on to teach outside Virden, Manitoba (Cromer). After serious coaxing from the School Inspector to continue teaching, George decided to move back to Winnipeg joining the weather office at the Int'l Airport and therefore left his potential teaching career to his sister Irene. He studied and became a meteorologist technician for Environment Canada for 34 years. During that time he cultivated many lifelong friendships. In 1952 he was a patient at the St. Boniface Hospital where he met the love of his life Eleanor, who at the time was a student nurse during his short stay at St. Boniface. Mom graduated as a Registered Nurse and soon after they married and enjoyed successful careers and five children. Following his retirement in 1983, dad and mum enjoyed extensive travelling and dad continued his love of carpentry, painting, designed and painted banners for Community Centres and family and friends. He hung up his fastball glove and lofted his 10 pin and 5 pin bowling balls down the lanes instead. Dad played the piano, accordion and harmonica like a pro and we enjoyed every foot stomping beat of it! The family would like to especially thank nephew Jim and Patti Dale and their children Matthew, Cameron and Laura for all their help through this difficult time. Thank you also to family and friends for your continued love and support. Thank you to the Palliative Care Program and their wonderful nurses who visited dad at home. A special thank you to Dr. A.N. Schroeder for his many years of wonderful care. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
