PETER RAMSAY MACDONALD It is with great sadness we announce the passing of my husband and our father Peter on April 18, 2014 at Riverview Health Centre. He is survived by his wife Maria MacDonald, the love of his life: daughters Sandra Lee Madak (Paul) and Jennifer Lynn Blair (Randy), granddaughters Sarah Elizabeth and Alexandra Lindsay, all from British Columbia; and Christian Sarubi and Valeria Sarubi of Mexico. Peter was born in Winnipeg October 19, 1935. Raised in St. James, Assiniboine Park was his backyard where he always ran, in later years jogged and eventually walked when he could no longer run. Active in sports, he was an excellent skier, tennis and squash player, an avid hunter and fisherman. In the past, he belonged to the Winnipeg Flying Club where he learned to fly at 16 years of age. He was an accomplished pilot with his ski, water, aerobatic and multi-engine rating and flew many hours in northern Manitoba. He flew many types of aircrafts but his two favourites were his own Cessna 185 and his Piper Apache Twin. He also belonged to the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, Manitoba Gun Dog Association, Manitoba Wildlife Federation and Manitoba Winter Club. In his early years he joined Kane Equipment; a road machinery dealer in Winnipeg. In 1971 he bought the company and expanded into North Western Ontario and Saskatchewan. He also formed another company brokering road machinery in Canada and the United States and flew his customers to various locations. Great times were spent on Lake of the Woods and at his home in Arizona not to mention his coffee buddies at times. In later years he contracted cancer but always had a positive attitude up to the end of his life. Peter's favourite saying was "there are many worse off than me". He survived two major operations but refused to let his illness take control of his life. Now he breaks the bonds of earth and flies through the clouds with eagles' wings and feels the hand of God. His wife, family and friends will sadly miss Peter. In keeping with his wishes, Peter was cremated and a private family gathering was held. Special thanks to: LeClaire Brothers and to the kind care from CancerCare, St. Boniface Hospital, Riverview Health Centre, Dr. Paul Dennick, Tara, Tracey, and Marty and Jan Scotten. If desired, donations may be sent to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We were friends and neighbours of Peter at Clearwater Bay until Peter sold his cottage and relocated at Buffalo Bay. He was always such a gentle man and we always enjoyed sharing tales of beavers, turtles, fish and our eagles nest shared on the island. We met him several times at Grant Park Shopping Mall where he got his exercise walking. He knew his time was limited but said he was ready to go and had had a great life. Rest in peace Peter.
