HELEN BACHYNSKI (nee STASKIEWICZ) November 22, 1932 April 19, 2014 On the evening of Saturday, April 19, 2014, Helen passed away after a short battle with cancer. She was being cared for at home and the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. She is survived by her son Jeff (Charlynne); daughter Charlene (Garth); grandchildren Nicole, Victoria, and Alisz; sister Marlene (Larry), as well as relatives in Winnipeg, Alberta, British Columbia, and California. Helen was predeceased by her husband John Bachynski, (Mr. B); mother Ann; father Joe; brothers Ed and Walter; mother-in-law Jean; father-in-law William. Helen was born in St. Boniface on Dufresne St. She attended school at George V , Lord Nelson, and graduated from Isaac Newton High School. Mom served in the Canadian Army Militia 6 ORD BN RCOC, from October 22, 1953 to December 14, 1967. She was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Helen was married in July 1959 and spent most of their life living in Transcona. Helen and John were married 44 years. She moved to Perth, Australia with John and the kids for one year before moving back and started working at the Westin Hotel. She retired after 26 years in December 1997. Helen had some loves in her life. Her grandchildren got the most out of her. She spoiled all three of them. She continued to be "Santa" even after John had passed. Helen's second love was football and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. She was a season ticket holder for 15 years. Even in the tough years (there where many), she continued to be a True Blue fan. We always thought if the coaches and players could hear her yelling at her TV set the last four years, they might have won more. A special thanks to the staff at Riverview Medical Centre 3 East, for the wonderful care they provided. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. A celebration of life will be held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day St. Winnipeg, MB 204-224-1525. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 338-7111

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My Mom, my best friend. How will I go on without you? I still pick up the phone to call you then I remember I can't. No more Tuesday shopping & lunches. No more advice or just a shoulder to cry on. My heart is broken, but I know you are in a better place now. You and Dad are together again. Until we all meet again. I love you forever & always.
