ANNIE KRISTJANSON August 23, 1917 - April 26, 2014 With sadness we announce the passing of Annie Kristjanson of Gimli on April 26, 2014 in her 97th year. Annie was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Ted Kristjanson in 2003. She was the last of her generation, predeceased by parents Bill and Olana Slobodian, sisters Sophie, Minnie, and Jean, brothers-in-law Hannes (H.S.) Kristjanson, Norm Carter, Ed Rosjer, and Siberg (Groa) Kristjanson, and her sisters-in-law Hannah (Ed) Jonasson, Valdina (Pete) Peterson, Teenie (Holman) Olson, and her grandson-in-law, Gerald (Roberta) Marks. She is survived by son Robert (Sigurros), children Roberta (Bill), Chris (Jennifer), son Ken (Eve-Anne), children Carolyn, Holly (Todd), and son Rick (Kay), children Kirstin (Iain), Jon (Jodi), and great-grandchildren; Amy (Reid), Jenna (Mike), Trevor, Devon, Leila, Benjamin, Alexa, Sian, Kira, Logan, Maci, and great-great-grandson Ross. Annie was born in Winnipeg, August 23, 1917. She came to Gimli July 14, 1929 where she immediately set about learning Icelandic from her neighbors, the Bjarnsons. Her parents built the "New Second Hand Store" on Centre Street, which later became the "Target Store". Following marriage to Ted, she immersed herself in the many facets of the family fish business, while she continued to work tirelessly at "Target Store" until she retired in 1991. Very active in the community and an avid curler, bridge and bingo player, she was also a founding member of the Gimli Kinettes, the Gimli Good Neighbors, and a member of the Eastern Star for almost 60 years! She had an incredible memory! She knew every family birthday and anniversary. To her daughters-in-law she was the "World's Greatest Mother-in-law"! "We love you Grandma Annie!" The Kristjanson family wishes to thank Drs. S.V. Patel and R.C. Patel, and the nurses at the Gimli Hospital, and Gimli Home Care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Khartum Shrine Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 1B9 or a charity of one's choice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at New Horizons, #17 N. Colonization Road, corner of 3rd Avenue and 5th Street, Gimli, Manitoba.
