AGNES JOSEPHINE BYRNE (nee WRIGHT) With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on April 25, 2014. Mum leaves to mourn her passing her daughters Doreen (Joe), Frances (Robert), and Siobhan (Michael); her sons Sean (Jadwiga), Brian (Fran), and Brendan (Charlene) and her daughter-in-law Edith. She will also be remembered by her brother and sisters-in-law, Jim, Betty, Angela, Rita and Bridgette, and many nieces and nephews in Ireland as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially her "Angel". She is predeceased by her husband John, infant twin daughters, and sons Christopher and Liam. Mum was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1921 to Eileen and William Wright. At a very young age she met the love of her life, John. They were married in 1944 and moved to Bray, Ireland where they had six children. Dad had the "itch" to immigrate, so in 1959 they moved to Winnipeg. Shortly after, two more children joined the clan. Mum worked at the Municipal Hospitals for many years until her retirement in 1986. She faced heartache and struggles especially after losing John in 1975 and then her two sons. Mum brought her Mum from Dublin to Winnipeg in 1960 for support and guidance. Granny was her rock during those difficult times. Through it all, Mum still loved to sing; whether it was with the Manitoba Opera or the church choirs. She had a voice that would stop you in your steps even in her final days. As a typical Irish woman, she had many stories and would keep you entertained for hours. Whether it was Christopher on the wall or her and her brothers sliding down the pipes on Bride Street, she would keep you amused and laughing. Family Sunday dinners on Arnold Avenue were her pride. She would make a killer roast for 30 and leave the cleanup for the kids. Dad would tease her looking down the table and say "Aggie, look what you've done to me". Mum was a very talented knitter. She made countless Irish sweaters that we will cherish and remember the love that she put into each one. We would like to express our thanks to the staff at Vista Park Lodge, the Emergency staff and the 4th floor staff at the Victoria General Hospital, especially Angela, who made her last days comfortable. A memorial service will take place at Our Lady of Victory Church, 254 Arnold Ave., on Thursday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Victoria General Hospital, Geriatrics Unit, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 2E8. Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I remember the many times I was at the house on Arnold Ave with Siobhan. Agnes was like a second Mum. Always offering her support, her advice, and if course a bite to eat. She would thoughtfully ask how my parents and family were doing. Our conversations always included laughter. She is a beautiful soul that will be greatly missed, but the many memories will be cherished. My prayers to the family. - Posted by: Teresa Johnson (Friend ) on: May 02, 2014

  • Aunt Agnes was the voice at the end of the phone and the family visits home to her brother Jimmy, my dad. I grew to know Agnes over the years and spent many an hour on the phone with her. I am glad that Danny and I surprised her on St. Patrick's Day 2011, it was the first time that I witnessed her speechless!! "Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam" translated from Irish "May her soul be at the right hand of God." - Posted by: Aileen Morrissey( nee Wright ) (Niece) on: May 01, 2014

  • There is no denying that Agnes was a Wright, the similarity with my father grew more and more apparent as the years passed. Gran now has the last of her children gathered around her once again. May Agnes join the others who are waiting for her and may they all rest in peace. - Posted by: Paul Wright (nephew from Dublin ) on: Apr 30, 2014
