Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTA PREIS (nee ENGELS) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Berta, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Oma's heart stopped beating on April 26, 2014. She is survived by her loving husband Nikolaus. and greatly missed by her sons Karl Vogelsang (Donna), Waldemar Vogelsang (Christa) and Rudy Preis, her grandchildren Katharine Krystalowich (Dan), Pam Christenson (Myles), Jason Vogelsang (Tara) and Kimberly Vogelsang. Also missing their Oma are great-grandchildren Payton, Braydon, Gracie, Mason, Olivia, Chase, Ryan, Ben and Sean, and step great grandchildren, Wyatt, Ethan, and Mattie Parks. Remembering her as well are numerous nieces and nephews in Canada as well as in Germany. She is also survived by her sister Karoline Boeringer and brother Fritz Engels in Germany and sister-in-law Berta Rehberg. She was predeceased by her parents Friedrich and Helene Engels, sister-in-law Irene Engels and brothers-in-law Rudy Boeringer and Friedrich Rehberg as well as her first husband Valentine Vogelsang. Mom was born August 12, 1924 in Reichenfeld, Ukraine from which she was forced to flee with her family to Germany due to The Second World War. She married Nikolaus Preis on April 7, 1956 just a few months prior to immigrating with her family to Winnipeg. Their youngest son Rudy was born in 1957. Mom and Dad enjoyed the wonderful 58 years with family and the many friends they made. She especially enjoyed family dinners on special occasions such as Christmas, Easter and of course the many family birthdays when we all enjoyed her cooking and baking. Although handicapped by a damaged valve in her generous heart, she managed to keep her house spotless and even worked outside the home as a seamstress to help support her family. Our parents did most of their travelling to spend time with family in Kingston, Victoria and many visits back to Germany to see their siblings and families. They especially enjoyed their five years at the Parkway Assisted Living facility with all the wonderful friends and staff. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Reception to follow in Glen Eden Reception Centre and interment to take place at Brookside Cemetery after the reception. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Many thanks to the staff at Victoria and Grace Hospitals as well as Heritage Lodge for the wonderful care she received. In lieu of flowers we request that you donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 338-7111

Oma was a lovely, warm lady with a sharp wit and accomplished cooking and baking skills. I will miss her laugh and wonderful accent and how she always made me feel special. The world is a little dimmer with her passing. - Posted by: Katharine Krystalowich (Granddaughter) on: Apr 30, 2014
