JEAN-PAUL COURCELLES
Date of Passing: May 15, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN-PAUL COURCELLES It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Jean-Paul Joseph Courcelles, on May 15, 2014, surrounded by family and close friends. He was an incredible husband, Dad, pepère and friend. Dad exemplified patience, gentleness, a good sense of humour and a joie de vivre. Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Pauline (Richard Chabot), Danièle (James Pace), Chantal (Darryl Lancaster) and Ghislain (Julie, née Proteau); his grandchildren: Mylène, Geneviève, Liam, Nève, Noah and Eric; his special friend, Carmelle Daneault; as well as his brothers and sisters. Au royaume éternel, Jean-Paul retrouvera sa chère épouse, Pat (née Breton), ses parents, Raphaël et Jeanne (née St-Onge), son frère Gérard et sa soeur Annette. Jean-Paul grew up in Ste-Agathe, Manitoba, before attending Saint-Boniface Juniorat and Teacher's College. His career in education spanned 35 years. He is fondly remembered as much for his fairness and knowledge as for his comedic wit. Jean-Paul lived an active life through hockey, golf and cycling. A talented self-made carpenter, Dad built two log cabins, furniture, and helped family and friends with numerous projects. His love of music, literature and "Les Canadiens" were some of his preferred pastimes. Dad had the opportunity to discover the world through his many travels. He also enjoyed conversing in Spanish, his third language. "Te quiero mucho!" Jean-Paul recently became a Knights of Columbus of the 4th degree. This brotherhood was very important to him and was a source of pride. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Eglise Sts. Martyrs-Canadiens, 289 Dussault Ave. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Manoir de la Cathédrale, St-Boniface Hospital and Winnipeg Convalescent Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Colon Cancer Canada or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220

My greatest condolences to the family and close friends of (as I knew him) Monsieur Courcelles. A very patient and gentle spirited man, he tolerated my juvenile behavior throughout the ninth grade at Ecole Queen Elizabeth II. I will always remember him for his patience, professionalism and clear moral character. You always felt his passion for teaching and instruction, to his credit. While it's been a very long time and there are many students that will blur together over time, some of us most certainly remember Monsieur Courcelles for all the right reasons. I hope you are enjoying your reward and maybe some day we can meet again. - Posted by: Chris Kielhorn (Student) on: Apr 21, 2021

He is such a wonderful person, and a great teacher. His jokes often far left field, and so much so that it was that much funnier and remembered. My favourite was during a math exami the battery in my calculator died so he lent me his.. and as he handed it to me he shouted " ATTENTION!!! ITS SHARP!!!" and he pointed to the branding on the calculator (Sharp), and smiled coyly. I still use that line to this day. Thank you Monsieur Courcelles for being you. I am very lucky to have known you, and been influenced by you. - Posted by: Rene Fourneaux (Student-Past) on: May 22, 2014

M. Courcelles was one of those rare teachers who showed passion, care and humour every day in his classroom. The cheesier the joke, the better. He gave me my first ever nickname. And in keeping with the subject he taught at the time, it was a science pun. He called me Daniel H2O. I've told many friends over the years about M. Courcelles, his sense of humour and the nickname he gave me. I'm so sad to hear that he's gone. The world is a little poorer for his passing but those of us who were lucky enough to have known him are much, much richer for what he shared and who he was. Thank you J.P. - Posted by: Dan Waters () on: May 20, 2014

Hello P, D, C + G, so sorry to hear about your dad. We have been neighbours sharing a driveway from when we were all kids and I will always have fond memories of "Mr. Courcelles". Your dad amazed me with his sole resourcefulness at building and fixing things long before tv shows or youtube showed people how to do it. He always had a snap in his stride trying to get what he was doing completed faster and he was a person who showed me that a house can be taken apart and put back together with our own two hands. In later years it was always good to know he and Pat were neighbours to our mom. RIP Mr. Courcelles. - Posted by: D D () on: May 20, 2014

- Posted by: Joelle Morgan (étudiante) on: May 20, 2014

- Posted by: Diane Bruyère et Bernard Gagné (Amis) on: May 17, 2014
