DIRK DEN HEYER June 9, 1920 - May 21, 2014 With sadness, we announce the death on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 of Dirk den Heyer who passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 93 years. Dirk was born in The Hague, The Netherlands to Cornelia (van der Swan) and Jacob den Heyer. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and worked as a carpenter in Winnipeg and Vancouver. In the 1960's, he and his family owned and operated the Gateway Drive-In in East Kildonan. Left to cherish Dirk's memory are his wife of 73 years, Cory, who was his loving and constant companion; sons: Ken (Isabel) Nova Scotia, Theo (Judy) and Dick (Debra) of Winnipeg; grandchildren: Kent, Nell, Molly and Elise; and great grandchildren: Violet, Arianna and Austin. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings in The Netherlands. A private family service will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the Poseidon Care Centre staff for their compassionate care of Dirk during the past three years.
