Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS RUTH WEDGE (nee STEFANUK) Peacefully, after a brief illness with her son Joe at her side, it is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Phyllis Ruth Wedge on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Tudor House Personal Care Home at the age of 89 years. Left to cherish Phyllis' memory are her son Joe and his wife Trisha; grandchildren Stormy and Maya; brother Eddie Stefanuk and his wife Rita. She was predeceased by her husband Joe who passed away in 1997. Phyllis was born and raised east of Teulon on the family farm. She attended Normal School on William Avenue in Winnipeg and received her Teacher's certificate in June of 1948. She took great pride in her teaching career and legacy and attended Normal School reunions to reconnect with old colleagues. In 1948 Phyllis married Joe (Sr.) and moved to Emerson where they spent their lives together as active members of the community. Together they ran a restaurant until Joe started his career with Canada Customs. Mom continued to teach until they started their family in 1965. She was active with the golf club, curling club, New Horizons and other social activities. After Dad's passing Mom moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her son and grandchildren. Dementia took her away from us over the last few years and she spent the final few years of her life at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk, MB. Our family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Tudor House who took Mom in as one of their family and looked after her as one of their own. A Celebration of Phyllis' Life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Tudor House, 800 Manitoba Avenue, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk. Hi Joey and Family, It is with much sadness that we heard of your mom's passing. Our deepest sympathy to you, your wife and your children. Although you won't remember me you might remember our family - The Koizumi's from Emerson. I phoned my mother in B.C. to tell her that your mom passed away and read her the obituary. She was so very sad to hear it. She said they were close to your parents, remembering the curling days and dinners they had together. Incredibly, my mom, still an avid curler at 89, remembers the last time she curled with your mom! It was March 1977. The family moved to BC later that year. It was the last bonspiel of the year in Emerson and they won it! Mom played lead, my brother Kenny played second, your mom played third and my dad was the skip. She wanted to share that memory with you. I have a feeling that your mom may have taught me in elementary school. But most of all Joey, I remember how proud your dad was and how happy your mom was - the day you were born! I can still see your dad handing out cigars, beaming with delight and so thrilled! Even though your heart may be heavy and sad, I hope you will look back on the many happy times you shared with your parents. We have many fond memories of them both. Please know our thoughts are with you and the family. Sincerely, Karen Eagleston, nee Koizumi, Calgary, AB. and Mr. & Mrs. Riichi Koizumi, Campbell River, B.C. - Posted by: Karen Eagleston (Neighbor) on: May 25, 2014
