Date of Passing: May 17, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMERVYN (MERV) H. WALLIN May 10, 1934 - May 17, 2014 It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear husband, dad, and Grandpa - Merv. After a lengthy illness Merv chose to pass peacefully with his family by his side at the Grace Hospital. He courageously refused therapy that may have briefly extended his life and gave his family time to grieve by his side. Merv was born in Lintlaw, Saskatchewan where he spent his childhood. His career as a Civilian Personnel Officer with Air Command took him to many locations, culminating in his retirement in Winnipeg in 1991 after 37 years of dedicated public service. Merv is predeceased by his parents Herman and Kathleen and his brother Ray. Merv leaves behind his loving wife, Lois, of 57 years, children Kim (Anne), Darcy (Laurie), Terry (Pat), Tim (Jeannie), Darin (Glen), eight grandchildren, sisters Kay and Bette-Lou and brother Warren (Lynn). Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I first met Merv in 1977 as I was starting my career in civilian personnel with DND. I was just out of university and starting my first job as a Trainee. Merv was in charge of Staff Relations in Aircom HQ and I was so impressed with his knowledge and logical way of thinking. He never hesitated in taking the time to explain a difficult labour relations case and I was fascinated by his colourful stories involving the stand up of CFB Suffield. He became an unofficial mentor for me and I tried to pattern my own approach to personnel issues based on his example. - Posted by: Ted Dobie (Friend) on: May 25, 2014
