Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUBY M. GIBSON December 26, 1911 - May 20, 2014 On the evening of May 20, 2014, Ruby passed away. She was being visited and comforted by family members at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. She was 102 years old. Ruby was born in Lydiatt, Manitoba. During her early years she attended the Corall School. As a young woman, she married and moved to Winnipeg and started a family. She operated a rooming house with her mother and she worked for many years in the bindery at Stovel Advocate Press. She retired at age 65. A very independent woman, she lived on her own at the Senior's Residence on Colony Street until age 99 at which point she moved to the Middlechurch Home. Ruby enjoyed the outdoors and travelling and was an avid sports fan. She had a fantastic sense of humour and was always ready with a quick comeback. She was a selfless volunteer, always happy to lend a hand to help family and others in need. She pampered everyone with meals and baked goods. Her brownies, shortbreads and pecan buns will always be remembered. She was predeceased by her daughter Jean, brother Frank and sister Pearl. She is survived by her son Robert "Bob" (Marlene) of Calgary, grandsons Robert "Bob" (Annette) of Ottawa and David (Michele) of Calgary and their families, as well as nieces and cousins. Many thanks to the staff at the Middlechurch Home. A special thanks to Marge and Ernie, Jimmy and Carol and their families for their ongoing care and support of mom. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow. My condolences to the family; Ruby was a very close friend of my mothers, Jenny Charman. They met when they both worked in the bindery at Stovel Advocate doing the phone books. It was there that they became lifetime friends; until my Mom passed away in 1987 and then we lost touch with Ruby. I wish I could remember more about her but I do remember her cheerfulness and her sense of humour. She was a very positive person and how wonderful that she lived so long independently and to celebrate over 100 years of life. God Bless! - Posted by: Eleanor Charman Brunette (Acquaintance) on: May 25, 2014
