Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD D. LAW With heavy hearts and sadness we announce that Gerry passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 15, 2014. Gerry was born April 16, 1928 in Winnipeg the son of William James Law and Ann Cleta Kerr. Gerry was survived by the love of his life and his wife of 61 years Marjorie "Mardie", daughter Sherry MacDonald (Peter) of Winnipeg, daughter-in-law Debbie Law of New Denver, BC, grandchildren Jessie (Susan) and Casey Law as well as Lindsey, Carling and Duncan MacDonald. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. He was predeceased by his beloved son Donald Ross Law "Donnie", a brother William James Law, and a sister Carol Rettie. Gerry grew up in the west end of Winnipeg attending Principal Sparling School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate while excelling at many sports including basketball, gymnastics, tennis, downhill and water skiing and lifeguarding. His parents taught him the value of hard work and dedication to country, particularly by his dad who fought, was gassed and was wounded in the trenches of France during the First World War. He lost an uncle James Duncan Kerr in the same war. He joined E.H. Price Ltd. in 1950 as only their third employee dedicating his entire professional life to this company while pouring his heart and soul into their success. Soon after opening an office in Edmonton he met Marjorie Bowen where they married there in 1953. In 1960 they moved back to Winnipeg and in 1964 he became President and CEO of E.H Price Ltd. (now the Price group of companies). For the next 22 years under his direction the company enjoyed major growth and expansion becoming one of Manitoba's leading manufacturing companies with offices and plants across North America and into Hong Kong and Singapore. He had the unique opportunity to work under his close friend and mentor Ernie Price then subsequently providing tutelage and guidance to then Vice President Gerry Price. He served as Chairman of the Company for a few years before retiring in 1990. During retirement Gerry and Mardie travelled and built a beautiful island summer home on Little Sand Lake (Minaki) where they enjoyed many happy summers puttering, working in the bush and raising their grandchildren and teaching them about nature and the environment. Gerry had a tremendously balanced and disciplined life, exercised daily and enjoyed over 50 years as a member of the YMCA followed by many happy years at the Reh-Fit Centre. The sudden death of his son Donnie in 2011 devastated Gerry and marked the onset of a slow decline in health. Gerry had so many friends and admirers. In business and in life the core traditional values of hard work, honesty and integrity served him so well. His firm handshake was as good or better than any written contract. He was meticulous and detailed, a tremendous organizer and an innovative thinker. He was well read and had a particular concern for politics, good government and the plight of today's youth. His gentle manner and logical approach to problems will leave a lasting impression on his beloved grandchildren. He had a quick wit and love for country music, particularly Johnny Cash. His guidance, good humour and unfailing love and dedication for his family will be sadly missed. The family wishes to thank his many caregivers and physicians over the past few years. At Gerry's request a private family service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice. Grandpa, Gerry, we will love you and will always miss you! For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

I was going through some old photos the other day and came across one of Gerry and me in our Hong Kong office from way back in 1985. It reminded me of so many great memories of Gerry and what a true gentlemen he was. As we approach the 10th Anniversary I still miss my friend very much. - Posted by: Gerry Smith (Former Employee and Friend) on: Dec 21, 2023

As I was a good friend of Gerry's brother Bill, Gerry was always the much appreciated wiser and older person to whom we looked up to. The whole Law family remain a significant part of my west end extended personal community which is now very much diminished. Had planned to reconnect with Gerry for a valued chat about the good times we had on Downing/Dominion streets but age-related things prevented that. It will now have to be held at a future better place. Til then rest in peace, good buddy. - Posted by: Harold McCort (Friend and neighbour) on: May 24, 2014
