JOANNE ISABEL INSTANCE (nee WRIGHT) January 22, 1936 - May 23, 2014 Joanne Instance, surrounded by her loving family and in the arms of her Saviour, passed away peacefully. She joined her loving husband, Fred, parents Rita and David Wright, and her son-in-law Randy Bilyk. Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her family, sons David (Susan), Bruce (Denise), Stuart (Shirley), and daughter Carole; grandchildren, Derek (Erica), Jennifer (Eric), Kella (Derrick), Darci (Ashton), Cody (Cassie), and her great-granddaughter, Ryan. Also mourning her loss are her sister Carole (Joe), her very dear friend, Mame McLaren, numerous nieces, nephews, along with her grandchildren's mothers, Jane, Connie and Mary-Ellen. She will be remembered fondly by friends encountered worldwide. In 1954, Joanne met her soul mate, Fred. They were married on May 25, 1957. Mum went to join Dad for their 57th wedding anniversary. Joanne was a devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her family were the main focus in her life. Joanne's unselfishness, love, faith and values were instilled in her family and all she met. Mum's courage and determination are the greatest legacy to all who knew her. While raising her family and caring for her parents in their time of need, Mum found the time to start a part time career with CPR and the Children's Hospital. Mum's career path then led into the Federal Government, where her work ethic, commitment and determination saw her become a key individual with Public Works Canada. Joanne was an active volunteer to the end. Over the years, she devoted many hours to organizations such as C.G.I.T., W.M.S., WICC, WICM, Prescawa, Willow Park Housing Coop, Willow Senior's Centre, Northwood C.C., and Alpha House. Her faith was lived out with her work in the Presbyterian church at all levels. Mum's contributions were recognized by the numerous awards she received both professionally and as a volunteer. A Celebration of Joanne's life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, 2:00 p.m., at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 197 Browning Blvd., with Rev. Peter Bush officiating. Our family would like to thank all of the medical staff at Seven Oaks, CancerCare and the Health Sciences Centre for the continued and compassionate care that Mum received during the many challenges she faced over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Thinking with warmest memories of Joanne as a strong leader who supported her church with passion. I want to pay tribute in particular to her leadership in the difficult journey of healing and reconciliation in Canada, perhaps fittingly on the eve of the day on which the Presbyterian General Assembly will mark the 20th anniversary of our Confession to Aboriginal peoples, which the WMS took part in presenting so beautifully in ceremony to the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and survivors of residential schools at The Forks in Winnipeg. I honour Joanne's leadership in this journey and her committed support of Presbyterian Native ministries. Wishing all those she loved and cared for every comfort and peace, and the joy of her memory. God be with you, Lori Ransom, Toronto - Posted by: Lori Ransom () on: May 30, 2014
