YVONNE ROUSSEAU (née GOULET) Yvonne Rousseau (née Goulet) died peacefully in the loving presence of her family on May 23, 2014 at the age of 92. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years Albert, and is survived by son Ernie (Dorothy) of Winnipeg, daughters; Janine (Dean) of Vancouver, Gisèle (Ted) of Toronto, Denise (Jay) of Ottawa, Michèle (Rick) of Winnipeg as well as thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all dearly cherished by their mémère. Born on January 11, 1922 in the farming community of Saint-Malo, Yvonne learned early on the value of cooperation and sharing among her twelve siblings. At the onset of the Second World War, she moved to the city working at a Winnipeg factory sewing soldiers' uniforms by day and studying at night to obtain her hairdressing license. She remained an exquisite seamstress all of her life and managed her own private hair salon. Shortly after the war, she met and married Albert who had completed military service. Together they proved to be dedicated partners in life, sharing their common values of family, faith and service to community. When Albert retired, the two enjoyed many trips together in their motorhome travelling and visiting with family and friends. Yvonne was a true gem; a kind and giving person who touched the lives of all those around her. She was a bright light in our lives and will remain a constant inspiration to us all. Maman, tu nous manques déjà et tu vivras à tout jamais dans nos coeurs. Funeral mass will be held at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road in St. Vital at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • When I was about 10 or so years old I went to holiday at tante Yvonne and oncle Albert for a few weeks during summer holidays. At the time they had Janine and Ernest was but a wee new born. I enjoyed spending time there but was a bit intimidated by oncle Albert and here is my story...tante Yvonne was a good cook as we all know. She had made this wonderful meal, I'm sure, but all I can remember of the meal is that she had cooked beet leaves as a veggie. Being of a none refined kitchen, I probably said..yuck and ..oncle Albert said in a nice but firm voice.."What your aunt serves is good and you will eat it". I sat there looking at those leaves, wasn't allowed to leave the table without swallowing them until eventually oncle Albert left the table and tante Yvonne came to my rescue. God love her...she discreetly disposed of them. Who knows!!! Maybe she brought oncle Albert a few of those leaves!?!? Bon voyage belle tante Yvonne. - Posted by: Pierrette Goulet (Niece) on: May 27, 2014
