Her 62 years on this earth served to bring much glory to God and joy to those who knew her. Her family, especially, grieves her passing. Doreen is survived by her loving husband, Walter, her little cat, Katie, her supportive siblings Frieda (Ferdinand) Goeres, Alfred (Charlotte) Lange, Eleanor (Harvey) Elke, Art (Edith) Lange, special nieces and nephews, including Carla (Norbert) Froese and Carrie (Glenn) Fruehm, who were like daughters to her, her best friend Arlene (Alfred) Kuehn, her lovely aunt and wonderful cousins. She was also dearly loved and is truly missed by her husband's family. She also leaves behind her church family and a community of special friends. Doreen was predeceased by her parents Elsie and Theodore. Doreen was born July 9, 1951 in Winnipeg, MB. She attended Lord Kitchener School and River East Collegiate. She loved children and decided to pursue a profession in teaching. She attended the University of Manitoba and received her Teaching Certificate in 1971. She taught at Hampstead, Salisbury/Morse Place and Prince Edward School and retired in 2001. Doreen was a wonderful teacher who gave much of her time to helping students with their education and their personal well-being. Her goal was to get to know the hearts of her students, and she always treated them with kindness and compassion. Doreen had a rare ability to connect with people. Her sweet, gentle, kind, compassionate and encouraging personality won the trust and hearts of many. She was a very humble person and made quiet sacrifices regularly so that others could flourish. She never took the simple things in life around her for granted and commented daily on how fortunate and thankful she was. Doreen's signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiles and laughter will never be forgotten. Doreen was well known for her wise words, her amazing inner strength and her generosity to help others. She always accepted whatever came her way. Doreen loved her family and friends deeply and unconditionally. Each one was special to her in a different way. She faithfully and selflessly cared for them through encouragement, prayer and her delicious cooking and baking. Doreen always looked forward to family gatherings and loved to host Sunday dinners at her home. Doreen was a woman of extravagant faith. In Doreen lay a special heart that was touched by God. It was important for her to use the many gifts and talents she was given to bring glory to her Heavenly Father. She desired always to serve God and others. The church ministries she was involved in strengthened the faith and hands of many. She taught Sunday School for many years and left a lasting influence on young lives. Words cannot express how much Doreen will truly be missed. She will be lovingly remembered as someone who changed our world forever. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 at the Church of God, 705 Concordia Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Avenue Church of God in support of child sponsorship through the Gospel for Asia Ministry.

I'm so sad to learn of this. Mrs. Pagels and her husband were some of the nicest people I've ever known. She worked at my school (Prince Edward) which is where I met her. I then ended up doing Sunday school with her as well. That was probably over 15 years ago and I still think of her and her husband very often. They were so kind and did a lot for me and my family. They truly touched my heart and I will forever remember both of them for the rest of my life! I wish you the best Mr. Pagels. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. - Posted by: Autumn Bohemier (Former Student ) on: Jan 03, 2020

Mrs Pagels was a great teacher, she inspired me every day. She always took the time in her day to talk. She gave a damn about all her students. She gave me that extra that I still use today and I will never forget her. My deepest condolences to all her family and close friends, but please know this - she made a huge difference in my life and many more. - Posted by: Wade Razella (Student (Salisbury)) on: May 31, 2014

Mrs. Pagels definitely left a lasting impression on me. She taught me grade 1 way back in 1984/1985, and I have always thought of her as one of my absolute favorites, and often wondered how she was doing. She was so kind, helpful and I always felt "at home" when I was with her. I could tell that she cared for us in more ways than just being our teacher. Thank you Mrs. Pagels. - Posted by: Brent Mehyden (Former Studen) on: May 30, 2014

How very sad to hear of her passing. It was 34 years ago that I was a student of hers. I have never forgotten her, and from time to time have smiled and remember how very kind and compassionate she was. It was grade 4 and she also taught me German. I finally got to Germany Frau Pagels and I thought of you when I was there last spring. You had a lasting impression on my life and I will always treasure your smile and the way you made sure that every student mattered. You were a treasure. - Posted by: John Storzuk (Student) on: May 29, 2014
