DENNIS ROGER DYCK September 17, 1959 - May 22, 2014 Roger was welcomed into his heavenly home on May 22, 2014. With family by his side, he slipped away peacefully into his Saviour's arms. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Gacheri Ann and their three children Mwenda, Kendi and Makena; his parents Ben and Margaret Dyck of Carman, MB; in-laws Peter and Salome Kiunga of Nairobi, Kenya; his sister Ruth (Ernie), and his brothers Ron (Linda) and Bob (Marie). He will be greatly missed by his Kenyan siblings Kendi, Joseph (Jessica), Ruth (Paul), Kathambi, Samuel (Sylvia), Nkirote and Kinya, including numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends. Roger was born and raised in Carman, MB. He attended Carman elementary and graduated from Carman Collegiate in 1977. Roger completed his Diploma in Agriculture at the University of Manitoba and attended His Hill Bible School in Comfort, TX. Roger then began his lifelong career of grain farming in Homewood, MB alongside his father Ben, brother Ron and nephew Bradley with pride and dedication. Roger had a passion for farming and for playing piano. You would often find him practicing the classical pieces long after the children had gone to bed. Roger enjoyed getting together with friends, taking his Kenyan visitors on farm tours, discussing family, farming, faith and sports. Roger married the love of his life Gacheri in Nairobi, Kenya on December 20, 1997. Roger was a man whose priority was spending quality and quantity time with his family - his pride and joy being his children! He was a great cheering section for his children, whether it be for Mwenda's hockey, football or piano playing; cheering and encouraging Kendi's accomplishments in synchronized swimming, piano and soccer or enjoying time with his little girl Makena reading stories, playing with John Deere toys or taking a leisurely swim. A great disappointment will be that his children will miss his love, guidance and support as they grow into adults. Roger had a strong faith in his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It was his family's unwavering faith that carried them through the difficult journey after Roger's sudden kidney cancer diagnosis. Family and friends prayed and sang together praising Jesus for the miracles they received during his illness. Roger faced his illness with incredible courage and strength. He was an inspiration to us all as even in his final days his thoughts and concerns were still with others before himself. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law" Galatians 5:22-23 The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the numerous family and friends near and far who offered their love, support and prayers during Roger's illness. There will be a viewing at Doyle's Funeral Chapel, Carman, MB on Sunday, June 1 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A celebration and farewell service will be held at Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg on Monday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Carman, MB. In honour of their father, Mwenda and Kendi will participate in the CancerCare walk on June 7, 2014. Online Donations can be made to their team "nothing runs like a dear" on the "Challenge for Life 2014" website. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Having only met Roger directly on a few occasions around the football field, you could tell that he was someone of quality and character. He had a gentle way about him, and was generous towards the club and always appreciative of the volunteers there. And having been involved over the years in coaching Mwenda on the football field, i can see that Dennis' influence and teaching has been received and is being modeled by his children. Well done, good and faithful servant. • Gacheri, Mwenda, Kendi and Makena, we are shocked and very saddened to hear of your Dad's illness and passing. He always struck us as a hugely kind, generous and genuine person. We saw his reflection so many times in his children, Mwenda, the way you always ask if you can help, Kendi, in your openness and kindness with the other little "hockey rink girls" and in Makena's playful smile. He spoke with such fondness of his wife and children. I know you will miss him very much but that he has given you the strength to continue to flourish. We are thinking of you today and are asking God to stay close to you in the weeks to come. - Posted by: Jo-Anne, Tony, Jeremi and Cassia Gauthier (Hockey friends) on: Jun 02, 2014

  • I got to know Roger just before his marriage to Gacheri. At the time I was dating Ruth. We got to know each other better after the wedding and after I married Ruth, Roger and I fondly referred to each other as the "outlaws". He was Outlaw No. 1 whereas I was Outlaw No. 2. Roger was extremely down-to-earth, generous, kind and hospitable. He readily welcomed my family and many others to live in their lovely home in Winnipeg. Outlaw 1, I will miss you.... You have run your race and fought the good fight! See you in the beautiful shores yonder. Outlaw 2 - Posted by: Paul Ndemo (Brother in law) on: May 30, 2014
