JEMIMA (MIMA) MARGARET SPENCE KIRK (nee MCLAREN) A Bonnie Scottish Lass Passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2014 with family by her side. Born in Stirling, Scotland and lived over 50 years in that area before remarrying July 1987 and moving to Winnipeg. Mima is survived by her husband Bob, sister Janet, three sons: Ian (Sharon) in France; Alastair (Fiona) in England and Phillip (Elaine) in Fife; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her father, Daniel McLaren, mother Annie Menzies, and brothers Bobby and Alex. In Scotland she raised her three sons initially farming, a lifestyle she grew to love right to the end. Mima then moved into teaching which she continued in Canada until retiring in 2000 from Morris School. Mima was active in curling, golfing, cross country skiing, gym, swimming, St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Winnipeg Burns Club and the Exchange Teachers Club through which she made many friends in Australia, US and UK. She enjoyed travelling, visiting Australia twice, and going home to Scotland every second year. In between she travelled Canada from Vancouver Island, Yukon to Newfoundland and one trip to Colorado, US. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 2 at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Woodhaven, 2700 Portage Avenue, at 10:00 a.m. with a second service to be held in Scotland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mima would like donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or a charity of one's choice. I had the privilege of working with Mima at Marion School. A gem of a teacher! She demonstrated genuine care and concern for children. Her positive nature and lovely accent were endearing.
