Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySVAVA EMILY ARNASON (nee BJORNSON) Peacefully, with her family and friends by her side, Mom (Amma) passed away on June 2, 2014 at the age of 88. Mom was born to Margret and Helgi Bjornson on March 3, 1926 at Mary Hill. She met and later married Oscar Arnason on June 12, 1943. Together they had three children: Allan, Ethel (Marvin) and Lynne (Kerry). She is also survived by her sister Asta Smart (Bob), sisters-in-law Petrina and Lara, along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Oscar, her brothers Mundi (Helga), Bjorn, Carl, and daughter-in-law Hilda. Remembering her with love are her grandchildren Michelle (Jeff), Marc (Misty), Michael (Becky), Kerri, Manly (Cherise), Chad, Robbie (Jackie), David (Jessi), and many great-grandchildren. Also a special companion, her dog, Tootsie. Mom had many close friends who helped to keep her young at heart right to the end. Many smiles were brought to her face by her dear friends Marilyn, Jean, and Linda and Leon. There are no words to describe what they've done for Mom and for that we thank you. Mom worked at various jobs in her younger years including G & E Store and 30 years of faithful service at Arnason Plumbing, but her passion was being a mom, wife and homemaker. She loved making perogies, pizza pops, doughnuts, ponnukokurs, strawberry jam and vinetarta most of which were given away to those she loved. Mom's hands were never idle. When she had free time her knitting needles would be clicking away. Many babies have been blessed to wear her homemade sweaters. Mom was an avid sports fan. She could be found at the arena or ball diamond cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching the Winnipeg Jets and curling on TV. The family would like to thank Dr. Burnet, the girls at the clinic, and the staff at the Eriksdale Hospital for the special care they gave Mom. Also thanks to the home care girls which allowed Mom to stay in her home as long as she did. Mom always had a way of making people feel special. In lieu of flowers or donations, we encourage you to do the same. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Lundar Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. Interment to follow in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery. A lunch will be held at the Lundar Legion Hall following the service. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. My wife Liz and I used to live in Winnipeg, We got to see Aunt Svava often. After completing University we moved to Alberta, so did not get the opportunity to see her as often but we did see her every time we came to Lundar. We were very sorry to hear about her passing. We offer our deepest sympathy to her family. I do understand that considerable time has passed, but felt it is necessary to offer our sympathy to her entire family. - Posted by: Ron Arnason (Nephew ) on: Jun 08, 2024

Svava's daughter, Ethel, and I have been best friends since Grade 1, I guess. So Ethel and I were always in and out of each other's home. Svava started out being my friend's Mom, and over the years she became my friend. Svava was always so cheerful and always seemed to have a twinkle in her eye. She was so proud of her kids and grandkids and all their accomplishments. And she LOVED her beautiful new house! My granddaughter Alyssa has been one of the fortunate babies/kids who received some of Svava's hand-knit sweaters. Here in Texas, where it gets cold a few times in the winter, everyone who saw Alyssa wearing one of those beautiful sweaters wanted to know where she got it. My husband Pete will never forget sitting at the kitchen table in Svava's beautiful new home, having coffee and kleiners... Icelandic doughnuts. He thought he was in Heaven!! We are all going to miss Svava so much. Love from Janet & Family - Posted by: Janet Donahoe (Friend) on: Jun 08, 2014

Svava was very special to me, as when I was a teenager she always welcomed me into her home and treated me as family. I spent many happy times out at Lundar with Svava and her family. I will never forget her kindness and the special person she was. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Kay Kristjanson (Friend) on: Jun 07, 2014

I feel blessed that I was able to see Aunt Svava one year ago when my Mother and I visited Winnipeg for my Aunt Marion's funeral. Living 500 miles away I probably visited with her just a few times. Aunt Svava was always so welcoming and she had a wonderful, peaceful presence that brought joy and serenity to others. I'm sad to say goodbye to my Aunt Svava. - Posted by: Val Olson (Niece) on: Jun 04, 2014
