ELIZABETH JANE (BETTY) GREIPL (nee ALEXANDER) January 27, 1922 - May 30, 2014 It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the peaceful passing at home of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother at the age of 92 years. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons Bob and Brian Alexander (Kathleen) and daughters Diane (Andy) and Janice. Her precious grandchildren Kali, Jullian (Anna) and her great-grandchildren Kelly, Tyler and Ivy who she adored. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Martha Plante of Red Rock, Ontario and Doris (Ken) Stein of Winnipeg and her many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Heather Gail in 1957, her oldest son, William (Bill) in 2011 and by her husband Leonard in 1959, her parents, William and Williamina (Ina) Alexander, her brothers Bill and Sandy Alexander and sisters Helen Nadon, Margaret Vermette and Pearl Alexander. Her in-laws Johanna and Joseph Greipl, her brothers-in-law Lawrence Greipl, Rene Plante, and Michael Nagy, her sisters-in-law Eleanor Greipl. Johanna Nagy and Hilda Greipl. Mom was born in Dufftown, Banffshire Scotland on January 27, 1922. She immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of five years. She always talked about taking the big ship over to Canada. When mom and her family arrived in Canada they resided in the Beulah district in Manitoba. Mom was the oldest of her siblings and the only remaining sibling. Mom was a Hairdresser in her early years of life. She stopped hairdressing to raise her family. Mom worked at Eatons at one point in her life and she was a Dietary Aide at Donwood Manor until her retirement. When mom was 19 years old she lived in Toronto and worked in the War Plant until she was 21 years old. This was huge to her. Our mom was a very active on the go type of person. Mom was a friend to all. She liked to shop until she dropped. Mom was always happy and not much got her down. She liked to laugh and always wanted to stay young at heart. Mom was a very strong-willed person. Mom enjoyed her children's activities and her grandchildren's activities too. She enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren and that was her life. Mom treasured these times. She raised all her children on her own. Mom lost her husband so early in life to Cancer. Her oldest son was nine years old and her youngest daughter was just six months of age. Our Mom was a remarkable lady. Mom travelled to Scotland with her mother and sister to visit family and her birthplace. She travelled to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Disney Land, Vancouver and places in the States where she had the time of her life. Mom did some volunteer work as a canvasser for the March of Dimes and the Heart and Stroke society. "To our Mother we will miss you terribly. You will always be in our hearts every day. Mom, you were a beautiful looking lady to us. You did the best you possibly could do for us and we appreciated that. You were one amazing person and we will always love and remember you. You were always there for us. That's the kind of person you were. It was your LOVE for us all. Thank you Mom. You were our Rock." Heartfelt thank you to her daughter, Janice for stopping her life to care for her mother during her time of need. Be and stand PROUD Janice for all the TLC. You are the perfect Home Care provider "Oh my God and then some". The care you provided her with gave her a longer life. We know how difficult this was for you and Bob. In her eyes, you were her best nurse and that was so comforting to her. Heartfelt thank you to her son, Bob for all the care that he provided to his mom during her time of need. Be proud too Bob. You did great. Heartfelt thanks to all the Home Care staff and workers. Much appreciated from the family. Special thanks to Dr. Guzman at St. Boniface Hospital for all he did for our mother and for helping Janice with all her concerns for our mother. There will be no service. A private burial service will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Our mother would say "AND I DID IT MY WAY..." Rest In Peace - you are our Angel. We Loved You More. Mom you are in my thoughts everyday miss you so much Christmas just didn't feel the same without you although I'm sure you were there in Spirit. We hung special ornaments on the tree that Brian ordered for you, Bill & Auntie Eleanor they are glass snow flakes engraved with your names & dates they are beautiful it was our way of sharing our Christmas in memory of you all. They sparkle & twinkle with the lights & I hope & pray that it is you letting us know you are there in Spirit :) as the new year is upon us I hope that I will find peace in my heart & soul so that the loss of you doesn't hurt as much but rather comforts me in knowing that you will always be with me & I would feel you there.
