SOPHIE FANNIE ADAIR
Date of Passing: Jun 05, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE FANNIE ADAIR (nee KALECHYN) Sophie at the age of 93 years passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 5, 2014 during a recent stay at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Tom and daughter Alexandra (Sandra) and her son-in-law Chuck Murray. She is also survived by her sisters Olga Kalechyn and Mabel Krykewich, brothers Mike and Tony, and sister-in-law Mae. Her extended family brothers-in-law John (Matilda) and Carter Adair, sisters-in-law Eurie, Iris, Fern and Joyce and Uncle Stanley Maydaniuk plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Rosie Kalechyn, sisters Mary Kichak and Anne, brothers Walter and Stan and an infant brother Mike and brother-in-law Paul Kichak and Wally Krykewich. Sophie was born in Myers, Manitoba in 1921. Having grown up in a big family she lived through hard times. She left home at 14 to work in local farm kitchens and then settled in Birtle Manitoba working at the Birtle Hotel as a waitress for over 15 years. At Birtle she met Tom and married in 1956 and since that time they resided in Winnipeg. During her time in Winnipeg she worked over 10 years at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery planting flowers each summer. Sophie liked to test her luck and enjoyed the odd game of Bingo, opening Nevada and scratch tickets. Sophie and her sister Anne were close sisters; both independent and hard workers. Sophie believed you have to keep moving to be healthy and be outside whether winter or summer. She loved working the soil. Just last week she completed the planting of her vegetable and flower gardens which she left to keep us busy this summer. We will miss Sophie's uncanny sense of humour as she liked to joke and tease when visitors came by. Many thanks to the staff 5th floor Unit 7 of Seven Oaks Hospital who took care and kept Sophie entertained during her brief stay. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at Woodlands Cemetery near Treherne, Manitoba at 1:00 p.m. on June 11, 2014. You are welcome to meet at the United Church 186 Boyne Street at noon. A small procession will leave there to the cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Donations may be made in Sophie's name to the Never Alone Foundation, 51064 Rpo Tyndall Park, Winnipeg, MB, R2X 3C6 or any charity of one's choice. Online condolences can be made by visiting www.willmorchapel.com. Jamieson's Funeral Services of Holland is in care of arrangements. 1-204-526-2380.

I will miss her smile, her warmth and her kindness. My auntie Sophie always made you feel welcome in her home, her smile would be the first thing she did to greet you. She was so much fun to tease, but she would give it back ten fold. I miss you but will see you again one day. God Bless. - Posted by: Carol Adair (Niece) on: Jun 09, 2014
