MARY ELIZABETH JOYCE (nee PUKALO) October 10, 1921 - June 8, 2014 With profound sadness, we announce that our beloved mother passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2014 in her 92nd year, maintaining her quiet dignity which she possessed throughout her life. Mom was predeceased by her loving and adoring husband, Patrick in 1990. She will be lovingly missed and forever remembered by her three sons and their families, Patrick and wife Janet of West Kelowna, BC, John and wife Colette of Chilliwack, BC, Mark and wife Lauren of Winnipeg, MB. Also left to mourn her passing are her grandchildren Jordain and Simone of Chilliwack, Kate (Mike) and Nicole of Winnipeg, stepdaughter Francis (Fraser) McLellan of Gimli, MB. Mom has three surviving sisters who she loved dearly, Agnes Magnan of Freemont, CA, Anne Holowaty of Hemet, CA and Joan (Nettie) McCarthy of Irvine, CA and sister-in-law Mary Kalo of Langley, BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born into a family of 12 brothers and sisters in Birch River, MB. She was raised on farmsteads in Prada and Birds Hill, MB. She left the farm life at an early age to find work in Winnipeg. She worked at Canada Packers where she met her future husband, the true and enduring love of her life. Mom stopped work to raise her three boys, who were a boisterous handful, but she showered them with much needed discipline, life skills and love. Mom was the glue that held the family strong. She was an extremely generous person. Her vast cooking skills were unparalleled and deeply appreciated by everyone that tasted her gastronomy and received her generous "care packages". She always remained loyal to her family and to a fault was fiercely independent. "All that lives must die, passing through nature to eternity" W. Shakespeare. "It is a person's kindly acts that are remembered of them in the years after their mortal life" Ptah-Hotep. A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, charitable donations may be made to a charity of their choice. A special thank you to all the caregivers that helped with mom's transition.
