AURILLA (RILLA) ADELAIDE LOUGHEED July 2, 1930 - June 5, 2014 Rilla passed away peacefully with family by her side, at West Park Manor Care Home. The family would like to thank the staff for their exceptional care during Mom's final years. Rilla leaves behind to grieve her devoted husband Cliff; daughter Jo-Anne (Ian) Seymour, sons Kevin, and Scott (Susan) Lougheed, as well as grandchildren Andrew (Andrea), Patrick, and Katie Seymour; Christopher, Nicholas, and Caroline Lougheed; Laura (Adam) Fanset, Darryl, and Paige Lougheed. Also sisters Ruth (Jack) Barteaux; Mary Lou (David) Reid; brother David Barnes; sister-in-law Eleanor Barnes, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will also miss her very much. Also fondly remembered by Sandi Lougheed. Predeceased by parents Jack and Helen Barnes, and brother Gerald Barnes. Rilla was raised on the family farm near Birtle, MB where she learned a love of family and the values of honest work, self-sufficiency and skills she would apply throughout her life. It wasn't all work though. She enjoyed long rides on her horse, Mona, playing the violin, and had a very active social life with many friends. She was working at Barkers Drug store in Birtle when she met a young Royal Bank employee named Cliff, and after a time, he convinced her he was worthy of her affections. They were married on June 15, 1949 and have been together over 65 years. Being married to a banker meant many moves to places as diverse as Birtle, Beausejour, Hamiota, Thunder Bay, Geraldton, Dauphin, and finally Winnipeg. Each time Rilla would set up the household, manage the details of raising a young family, making many friends and memories along the way. While supporting dad's career and all that involved, mom found time to engage her interests in sewing, knitting, and quilting. Of particular note were her oil and watercolour paintings, and her love of gardening. She was a fabulous cook with a flair for new recipes, and was the family "official photographer". Mom also loved being a Grandma and the special bond she had with all her grandchildren was a great joy in her life. They loved their time with her and can all recall many stories of special times with Grandma. Favourite family memories revolve around travel, including many road trips and trailer camping escapades throughout most of Canada and northern USA. Later, Mom and Dad enjoyed good times with extended family and friends in places like Hawaii, the British Isles, and repeated trips throughout the eastern US seaboard. Mom especially loved family reunions, and kept in touch with distant relatives. She was our family historian. Mom had a real flair for design. She created the plans for her last house on Bramble Dr., had quite an eye for interior design, and her house decor reflected that. Mom was a wonderful hostess, generous to a fault with her time and resources. We will miss Mom very much. We have comfort that she is now at peace and with her Savior. A Service in celebration of Rilla's life will be held at Victory Baptist Church, 3428 Portage Ave., Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., Pastor A. Dyck officiating. • Cliff, Jo-anne, Kevin and Scott. Aunt Dorothy let me know of Rilla's passing, please know that I am thinking of you all. Although we haven't had contact in recent years I have often thought of you. The times we did get together for family gatherings were always fun. And yes, Rilla was definitely a wonderful hostess making certain we all were having a good time and well fed! She was a beautiful lady both in appearance and personality and she truly cared about family and friends. A lovely lady may have left us but you all have those very precious memories that can never be taken from you and this will give you comfort. Sending Big Hugs to you all...
