I knew Dave from our weekly poker nights back in the 70's and 80's. Dave had a great sense of humour that I'll always remember. He was one of those characters who remain with you for the rest of your life. - Posted by: Phil Mowatt (poker buddy) on: Jun 18, 2014

Always knew all was right with the world when I saw Dave out and about. Did not know about his passing until after the funeral. Glad to have stumbled upon the news so know not to look for him, except in my heart. We met back in the '70's, I think at the U of M, but that was a long time ago. More recently, we ran into each other from time to time in Wolesley. Kindly, when he met one of my adult kids and recognized the connection, he told her "Your mom is good people." Thanks, Dave. I will miss your sunny disposition. - Posted by: Lori Anderson (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2014

It was always a fun family event when the Gray's came over for a visit. Uncle Dave was a great joker and there was always much laughter. Later at the University of Manitoba and Folk Festivals I would further appreciate Uncle Dave's generosity of spirit and friendship. My Dad and Uncle Dave shared a special bond as only two boys growing up in Port Colborne could know. Thanks Uncle Dave for being a great friend and shining spirit...may there be infinite peace and music in the spheres with you. Love Glenys. - Posted by: Glenys Vanstone (family friend aka "Uncle Dave") on: Jun 14, 2014

Dave was a friend for many years and I spent many a late night sitting on the Cousins patio being regaled with tales of his younger years, experiences and travels, often over a night cap of ale or a dram. Dave was a kind heart who always had time for friends, offered his considered opinions when sought out - some times even when it wasn't even being sought, and there was mostly good measure and consideration of others in them. I was happy to call him friend and we always had time for a few words with each other at our busiest. Just about everything I know about wood and certainly the intricacies of carving it - I learned from him and even joined him a time or two for a supply run to LeeValley for a gadget or tool. The Fireballs he carved for me have be worn by the likes of Elizabeth May, my mother and sister and a lady friend (or two). Dave, I will miss you my old friend though these last few years we had not seen much of each other. I will always treasure those times reminiscing with you. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Drew Fenwick (Friend) on: Jun 14, 2014
