RENAUD PAQUET It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Renaud Paquet on June 12, 2014, at the age of 69. Renaud will be sadly missed by his wife Sandi and his children, Michelle and Martin (Mel Jacques), as well as his grandchildren, Kaven and Zander. He also leaves his sisters and brothers, Gisèle Deschênes (Lucien), Gaby (Louisette), Réjeanne Deschênes (Fernand), Rodrigue (Rita), Pierrette Blanchette (Jean-Noël) and Laurent (Lucille), step children Eric Sawatzky (Joanne), Glen Sawatzky (Sharon) and step grandchildren Robyn, Noelle, James and Julia. Renaud was born on August 20, 1944 in Quebec. At the age of 19, Renaud came to Winnipeg to learn English and complete his electrical course and later obtain his contractor's license. He married Lorraine (Bourrier) and had two children, Michelle and Martin. In 2010, Renaud would remarry Sandi (Sawatzky). Renaud had a passion for electrical and owned his own electrical business for many years. In 1989, he decided to accept a position as the foreman of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division. He worked there until he retired in 2007. Renaud enjoyed life to the fullest and had a great sense of humor. He would make everyone feel welcome and was always happy and positive. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus for many years and volunteered his time at the Festival du Voyageur and church functions. Renaud enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards with his brothers, golfing, curling, watching hockey, making his wine and travelling. He also enjoyed being outside by the bonfire with family and friends. Renaud was a hard worker and was known for his kindness. He was always there to help anyone in need, even complete strangers. Renaud will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank everyone at Cancer Care at St. Boniface Hospital, all of his doctors, his palliative care team from South Manitoba, and all his friends and family for their visits and support during his illness. A video presentation and eulogy will be shared at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19 at the St. Eugene Parish, 1007 St Mary's Rd, Winnipeg MB, R2M 3S5. It was sad to hear the passing of Renaud. I was in Mc Donald's today and saw Kelly and Gerry Electrician's working for St James School Division, and catching up on old news. I mention Renaud if he was well, and Kelly told me he passed away. Renaud and I go back to 1993, my neighbour Walter Smilisky, who for St James School Division, at that time told me there was looking for a Electrician at the school board. I passed my resume and was interview with Renaud, and he being French Canadian, well you see myself coming from England well I thought to myself, you guess the rest! Anyway we got on with flying colours!! I worked there on a temporary to fill in Jim Shepard, till he came back. I left and didn't come back till in 2005 when position for Electrician position, was posted. I applied and start again in April 2005 till Febuary 2006. In that time Renaud was the best Foreman I worked for, we would joke about everything and my accent and Renaud we just hit it off! I was grateful to have a person like Renaud to work for, being a Electrician himself we alway's got on well. He shall be truly missed, my condolence's out Sandi and his family and to all who knew him. Renaud you shall be missed by many. RIP. - Posted by: Joseph Halyckyj (Friend/ Electrician ) on: Sep 10, 2014

Salut mononcle ! Nathalie - Posted by: Nathalie Deschênes (niece) on: Jun 21, 2014

- Posted by: Pierre Deschênes (Neveu - nefew) on: Jun 18, 2014

I can't believe that Renaud has left us so early , way too early , Renaud was the "joie de vivre" on two legs , he was always in a good mood , he had an unbelievable sens of humour ,he was really enjoying to make us laugh , he didn't have to say a word and you could tell that something funny was coming by the spark he had in his eye ! His Quebec family was so anxious to see him , every time we knew that Renaud was planning a visit , even if we fell they were to few and far apart , because you know a person like Renaud you want to be a part of his life everyday, but the distance and our hectic lives...but at each reunion it was pure pleasure , so much fun , so much love, we didn t have to put a show for Renaud , just be ourselves , Renaud was real , down to earth ,generous , interested in what others had to say , he was a good man , always ready to help ! I have so many good memories of Renaud each visit was memorable , but maybe some more than others , like his presence at my R.C.M.P. graduation , in regina ,but sometimes it was the smaller things that stay like teasing Susan about her drinking (or not drinking ) or his comment about how he felt about golfing...and the bigger ones like his wedding with Sandi , I felt privileged to be part of it with Susan, what a beautiful week-end , full of love ,happiness , and fun, we had a great time , memories I will cherish for ever! I'm not the most religious guy but if God exist , I hope we will meet again Renaud and we will have a good laugh ! Rest in peace Renaud . With love from your nephew and his family , Alain , Susan , Jeffrey , Alexandre ,Luc , and Nicolas. - Posted by: Alain Deschenes (nephew) on: Jun 18, 2014

We met Renaud, and Sandi, at the Teacher's Curling bonspiels many a time, and enjoyed the fudge he brought. We also remember the time he and Glen J. came to chop wood for us in our backyard, and after, enjoyed a few bowls of homemade soup. We will cherish our memories. Our sympathy to Sandi at this sad time. - Posted by: Murray and Edna Brown (friend) on: Jun 16, 2014

Renaud, you were such an amazing person who was always so giving to others and will be truly missed. Glenn and I will always cherish our Friday night curling games as well as our curling trips to Grand Forks with you and Sandi. We had so much fun and even won a few prizes along the way. To Renaud's love of his life, Sandi, you are a true gem and we are so proud of you for taking care of Renaud right to the very end. Our condolences to all family. Rest in peace, Renaud! - Posted by: Leanna Crawshaw (Friend) on: Jun 14, 2014
