FLORENCE WERNEY MINUK
Date of Passing: Jun 12, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE WERNEY MINUK "There are some beautiful things in our world" and our Mom was certainly one of them. She was active, caring and loved life. So it saddens us to share her passing on 12 June, 2014. Mom and I made plans for the following day over a bowl of dark cherry ice cream. She went upstairs and suffered a massive stroke not gaining consciousness again and succumbing the next day. Neil was with her at the end so she was never alone. Mom was born in Favel, ON where her parents operated Ana Nee Chee Fishing and Hunting Lodge. Grandma and Grandpa were pioneers on the land and Mom was the light of their life. Mom worked hard baking bread, pies and helping with the endless chores. She attended school on a school train car with her friend Lou Therrien. They were friends to this day. When Grandma and Grandpa bought a house on Lenore Street in the late forties Mom moved into the city to work. In 1951 she met the love of her life Simon Minuk. They married on 17 November, 1956 and Dad died 49 years later on that day. My Great-Aunt Jackie claims theirs was a true love story. As a family we had fun, respectful and loving parents. Mom was a stay at home mom volunteering at school, the Girl Guides and the Boy Scouts. Mom was content in her gardens which were lavish, abundant and gave such joy. She loved her pets. She loved to bake. Pies, breads, cookies. Her chocolate jelly roll filled with whipped cream! Holiday meals were special. Mom and Dad always filled the table with friends and family. They were hard workers. Mom spent 25 years at the Grace Hospital until she retired. Mom was raised Catholic, my father was Jewish and we were shown to embrace the good in all faiths. In the past few years on ancestry.ca we discovered Mom's roots went back to Polish Jews, which would certainly explain her chicken matzoh ball soup. We love you Mom and Dad and we miss you! Mom and Dad we picture you having a steaming hot black coffee and a donut at that Tim Hortons in the sky. They are smiling. That is what we see. We were blessed and will carry on our family name with pride. We love you. Lisa, Simon, Neil, Kristy, Nate and June. Shalom. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
