Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUGHINE ELAINE MATTOCKS With family by her side Hughine Mattocks passed away peacefully on June 15, 2014 at the age of 88 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Bruce (Janet) and Gary (Christine), daughter Nancy (Barry) Baydock, and grandchildren Alexandra, Reid and Jackson Mattocks, and Breanne Baydock. Hughine was predeceased by her parents Gertrude and Alexander McKay, and her infant brother Norris. Hughine was born September 9, 1925 in Eden, Manitoba. At a young age she and her family moved to Winnipeg, residing for many years on Scotia Street. In 1953 Hughine married William Mattocks and together they built their home in Woodhaven. Together they raised their family and throughout their lives enjoyed an amicable relationship. She began her working life with GMAC. After taking time to raise her family she returned to work, retiring from Great West Life in 1990. During her retirement she was very active and made many friends through her commitment to mall walking well into her 80s. With her mother passing away at a young age, she enjoyed a very close relationship with her father. He took her to many hockey and football games and this lead to a lifelong passion for sports. She especially enjoyed the return of the Winnipeg Jets and in fact planned much of her life around their schedule. Her father taught her the joys of gardening and she took great pride in creating her own beautiful rock garden. Over the years, she had many neighbours ask to bring their friends over to enjoy its splendor. Mom was a strong, determined woman who faced life's challenges head on with dignity, humour and humility. She will always be lovingly remembered. The family would like to thank Dr. Marcus Blouw and all of mom's caregivers at Grace Hospital for their care and compassion during her final days. A Celebration of Hughine's Life will be held on Friday, June 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Donations in Hughine's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
