RAYMOND ALFRED FROST It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving and kind husband, father and poppa on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Ray was predeceased by his infant son Ian, his parents Florence and Frank Frost, sisters: Florence Larkin and Margaret Levinsky, brothers: Bill, Ted, Frank and Fred, and his mother-in-law Jonina (Stephanson) Adderson. Ray is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianne, his sons: Kevin (Carol), Bruce (Cyndi), his daughter Susan, and his sister Lillian Coram in England. He leaves to cherish his memory his five grandchildren, Kyle, Brendan, Caitlyn, Samantha and Matthew, and numerous family and friends. Ray was born on January 5, 1928 at home. He was a proud graduate of Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He was a champion speed skater and had a 40 year career as a coach in minor and junior hockey in Winnipeg. He began coaching in 1944 with the Downing Parks Board Team and also with Isaac Brock and West End Memorials Bantam "B" clubs until 1956. He then went on to manage the MJHL Winnipeg Rangers for ten seasons. The Rangers won the MJHL Championships three times and were Western Canada finalists in 1961 losing to Edmonton. He served for ten years (1967 to 1977) as a scout for the Philadelphia Flyers, Stanley Cup winners in 1974 and 1975. He coached his son's Bantam "B" and Midget Hockey at the Winakwa Community Club for seven years (1972 to 1984) before retiring from the game of hockey. Ray was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005. Ray started his career in the grain trade right out of high school and retired after 45 years as a trader and Office Manager for Parrish and Heimbecker Ltd. Ray was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for over 50 years serving as a Financial Recording Secretary for ten years. He was a founding member of the "Kinsman" Reh Fit Centre and celebrated 35 years as a member in April, 2014. Ray loved his summers at Grand Beach. His cottage was the place to be with his children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the ER and the Cardiac Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness to Ray and to us. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 Winakwa Road, Winnipeg, MB R2J 1E7, or Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame Inc., 652 Foxgrove Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2E 0A7, or a charity of your choice. • Sending our condolences Dianne, to you and the family. Will keep those precious memories of thanksgivings at Grand Beach close to our heart. • Dianne, Kevin, Bruce, Susan and family. My heart goes out to you on such a sad day. Uncle Ray will be dearly missed, and will always be remembered as a wonderful Uncle, a spirited individual, a loving family person and a well respect man. He always had time for me and my family and would greet you with a solid handshake, a warm hello and a mischievous grin - that's when I knew he was going to get a "locker-room" ribbing about something (usualLY rail service or sports teams). He had an amazing ability to transition from this to engaging conversations that made you feel welcomed and loved. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you today and that Uncle Ray was a very special person. Love Scott, Megan and Kate. - Posted by: Scott Sutherland (Nephew) on: Jun 26, 2014

  • I will always remember that sunny autumn morning when Ray waited patiently for me to finish raking and bagging leaves before he wandered over and with that big, warm smile of his, asked if he could have the leaves for his roses! He knew how to get a job done! Memories are the wonderful gifts that loved ones leave behind to help us heal and warm our hearts forever. The Greenmount Road neighbourhood will miss him. Thoughts and prayers to Dianne, Kevin, Bruce, Susan and family from Laima, Tom, Jennifer and Ray Parker. - Posted by: Laima Parker (neighbour) on: Jun 25, 2014

  • Dianne I'm so sorry for your loss. I first knew Ray as the Good ole hockey scout that tried to get me drafted to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1972 and I loved him for it. But I went to the New York Islanders I got hurt playing hockey and in 1974 I started work on the Commodity exchange floor, where Ray and I met up again and have been friends ever since. He was one of the nicest and most honest guys you could have met and dealt with. He will be missed. - Posted by: Boomer and Linda McLaughlin (worked with Ray on Winnipeg Commodity Exchange) on: Jun 25, 2014

  • Dear Dianne, Kevin, Bruce and Susan: I was totally shocked and surprised to hear of Ray's passing. I have known Ray for almost 50 years and am proud to say he was my hero. I have never known anyone so selfless and caring as Ray and there is a big hole in my heart. Ray was always the guy to go to if you needed help in anything. If it wasn't for him in the big storm of 1966, where I ended up at your house for 2 days, I don't know if I would be here or not. Dianne, I'm sure you remember this "event". I have never forgotten your folks help. I know his faith was strong and has carried him through in the last 30 odd years with his heart problems. God is with him now, and I would like to say it was the greatest of privileges to know and be his friend. Love to the whole family, Dave Parkin - Posted by: Dave Parkin (Friend and co-worker at Parrish & Heimbecker.) on: Jun 25, 2014
