ROSE KOSTECK (nee SPUZAK) With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rose Kosteck on June 20, 2014 at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her parents John (Iwan) and Maria Spuzak, husband Antoni James (Jim), son Patrick, and sisters Joyce McCaughey and Ann Rawluk. Left to cherish Rose's memory are her sisters Mary Shymkiw and Christine Pidborchynski; children Shirley Payment and Walter Kosteck (Evelyn); grandchildren: Angela Payment (Murray McGill), Michael (Jane) Payment, Heather Kosteck and James Kosteck; as well as her great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her friends. Rose, the second of five daughters, was born on January 21, 1917 in Silver, MB. She spent her youth labouring tirelessly on the family's farm while also attending school. In 1938, she met and married Jim Kosteck. Rose and her family would live and farm in Plumas - with a brief stint in Riding Mountain. After Jim's passing in 1974, Rose and Patrick moved to Winnipeg. The transition to city living really suited Rose who felt like she had truly begun to live life to the fullest. She became very active in various hobbies, and even took up employment at the Tan Jay factory until her retirement at the age of 68. Rose was passionate about gardening, baking, bowling and watching all the cooking shows on TV. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL) which gave her much satisfaction and pride. Rose loved her family and friends unconditionally. Everyone loved her food and her perpetual smile. She will be terribly missed, respected and admired by those who knew and loved her. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward's Roman Catholic Church, 836 Arlington Street. Reception will be held following Mass, interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rose may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. • Rose was such a sweet and special person with a wonderful spirit. I met her through my grandparents, Jack and Caroline Hicks, who were her neighbours for many years. I was always amazed at her energy and busy schedule! She was always baking, gardening, bowling or taking an interesting new class. I would sometimes run into her over the years at Polo Park Shopping Centre and it always made my day to see her and have a chat. My deepest condolences to all of Rose's family. I will always remember Rose's warmth and great spirit. Brenda Fehr, Winnipeg - Posted by: Brenda Fehr () on: Jun 25, 2014
