MURIEL HALL Peacefully, in the early morning of June 24, 2014, Muriel Hall (nee Auld) passed away at the Riverview Health Centre after a short battle with cancer. She was predeceased, after 56 years of marriage, by the love of her life, Sid, in May of 2013 and her youngest son, Ian, in February of 1997. She is survived by her son Graeme, daughter-in-law, Astrid and granddaughters Kate and Tove, whom she adored. Mom is also survived by her brothers Malcolm and Clive in England, her sister Jan in Ninette and brother Ray in Niagara Falls, all of whom travelled to see Muriel in the last few weeks. She was born in Sunderland, England, where she met and married a dashing young swimmer, Sid, in 1956. They were both taken by the travel bug early in life, and at the tender age of 20 she travelled to Nigeria where they resided for seven years. During that time her sons Graeme and Ian were born. The family moved back to England in 1963 and then to Canada in 1970, settling in Winnipeg. Muriel was primarily a homemaker, staying home to raise and nurture her sons, but she also spent a number of happy years working part-time at Sears and Reitmans, Polo Park where she made numerous lifelong friends. Muriel and Sid moved to Paradise Village in 1994, following Sid's retirement, and enjoyed many happy times over the following 12 years before moving back to the city in 2006, residing in Beauchemin Park Place in Charleswood. Everywhere she went Mom made friends, as she loved nothing more than a good conversation and to share a laugh with friends and family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Celebration of Muriel's Life will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. We would like to thank the third floor doctors, nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital for their compassion and dedicated care, all of the home care co-ordinators and staff who allowed Mom to get back home for a happy three weeks and all the doctors, nurses and staff in the Palliative care ward at Riverview Health Centre. The family appreciates all of your compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • To our dearest Muriel, you were always so cheerful and happy. Always positive even towards the end...you never complained and always had a kind word to say of all. You are much loved by all of us here, Silvana, Louie and Norma (in-laws) our children Miranda, Justin and their partners Ashley and Miguel....your great niece Madelyn has said that you are now a Fairy Angel....we will all miss you Muriel but feel somewhat at ease knowing that you be at peace with Sid....Love always your baby brother .....Ray. - Posted by: Ray & Silvna Auld (Brother and sister in law) on: Jun 30, 2014

  • My Aunty Muriel or as she preferred "Muriel" will be very fondly remembered by everyone that may have had the pleasure of meeting her in their lives. She was able to radiate a lovely feeling of happiness that was available from her to every person in her life. She was a smiler never a moaner, the natural family matriarch for her brothers and sisters, always optimistic and in her early years very much the Family pioneer in her approach to making the most of life and what it can offer when compared to her humble start in life in the North East of England. She took all of her boys on adventures around the world, a lady that was very not afraid to start a new life and build a new home wherever she settled. Loving, loyal, compassionate and caring all delivered with a beautiful big smile. My thoughts are with Graeme and Astrid and Kate and Tove. - Posted by: Steven Auld (Nephew) on: Jun 28, 2014
