MARY KENNEDY January 14, 1925 - January 5, 2014 It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Mary Martha Kennedy on January 5, 2014. She was with her brother Jerry and sister-in-law Ricki when she passed away. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years Vimy Kennedy (June 2, 2013), her daughter Vilma, her sister Victoria Cathcart, and her niece Jean Rosdobutko. She is survived by her loving daughters Beverley Paley (Brian), Cathy Kennedy (George Floresco) and by Dianne Kennedy who was her companion, and caregiver. She was also predeceased by her parents Anna and Alexander Rosdobutko. Mary will be missed by her grandchildren Jeremy Paley, Amanda Lancaster (Jason), Arron Floresco (Rhonda Hinther), and Sean and Jessica Floresco. She had four great-grandchildren; Luke Lancaster who shares her birthday and Sebastian Floresco, Lily Lancaster and Vincent Floresco. She will be missed by her loving pet Oscar and a huge extended family and many friends. Mary was born in Kenora, Ontario on January 14, 1925. She left home at 17 to work at her first job in Toronto and then to Ottawa to work the telegraph machine sending encrypted messages overseas during the Second World War. She married Vimy in 1946 and together they had four daughters. The passing of their first child, Vilma, was very hard on her, but her life got better with the arrival of Bev, Dianne, and Cathy. "Marisy" had a very special relationship with her devoted brother Jerry Ross, sister-in-law Ricki, and nephew Jay, niece Courtney, and nephew-in-law Brian. They celebrated all special occasions together and she enjoyed each and every celebration with them. Since November 11, they were at Marisy's bedside almost every day along with Dianne. Mary loved to travel. She was known as "granny on the go" by her grandchildren. Because she was so active and independent her loss of mobility was very difficult for her to accept. She never gave up being as mobile as possible. She was out shopping with Dianne earlier in the day that she was rushed to the hospital. She enjoyed many things in life: card games with friends and family, knitting afghans for people she loved, flowers and gardening, attending or watching Blue Bomber football games, NHL hockey and was a true Maple Leaf fan. Mary's passing has left a huge hole in so many hearts. Cremation has taken place and some of Mary's ashes will be scattered at the Lake of the Woods this summer because this was a place she loved. The family would like to thank Dr. Fatoye for his kind, supportive and compassionate care he gave mom since her admission to Seven Oaks Hospital and to all the staff who cared for mom. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, July 2 at 2:00 pm. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
