Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH SCHNEIDER With deep sadness we announce the passing of Ken at Arborg Hospital on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the age of 93. Ken leaves to mourn his children: son Murray (Marlene) and their children Tracy and Lynley (Rob); daughter Carolyn Porhownik (Lawrence) and their children Cindy (Keven), Royden, Nancy (Gus), and Ken; son Paul (Vivian) and their children Christopher (Anita), Jennifer (Patrick), Janelle, and Stefan; daughter Angela Chuchmuch (Michael) and their children Kathryn, Elizabeth and Anna; and five great-grandchildren Kalli, William, David, Andreas, and Lupe. Ken is also survived by his brothers Stanley Schneider of Stratford, ON and Morris Schneider of Seaforth, ON, his sister Kathleen Riehl of Stratford, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Conrad Schneider (1973) and Lydia (1981), and Viola (2013), his wife for 70 years. Dad was born and grew up on the Schneider farm at Gadshill, ON. After leaving school he worked full time on the farm. When the war started he spent a short time doing war effort work in Hamilton, ON. In 1941 he was called to serve in the army and was stationed first in London, ON and then Huntington, QC. Because of his father's illness he was given leave from the army to return to work on the farm. In 1943 he married Viola Gross and they lived on the family farm until 1956 when he accepted a job out west' and moved his family to Manitoba, settling in Lockport. He first worked for Pioneer Hatchery (associated with Brett-Young Seeds) where he began what developed into a career in the poultry industry involving the supply and servicing of the flocks of baby chicks needed by egg producers. He travelled extensively in Manitoba and adjacent provinces in sales and service and became well versed in this part of the poultry industry. He was always in demand by his customers, especially the Hutterite colonies, where many life-long friendships developed. After over 35 years in the business, he retired from Keystone Hatcheries in Niverville. Also during these years he established the family poultry business at Lockport that produced hatching eggs for nearly 20 years. In his retirement years he spent considerable time educating himself and he became quite knowledgable about the practices that promote good health involving nutrition, diet and exercise, which he followed consistently. He spent many happy hours going on long walks with his dog by his side, and took great pleasure in tending the yard and garden. Visits from family, the neighbours and former customers were always welcomed. He took great pride in watching his family grow and flourish. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Red River Place Personal Care Home in Selkirk for their kind and loving care during the past few years, and to all his visitors during his residence there. At Dad's request a private graveside service will be held. For those who desire, donations can be made in his memory to Little Britain United Church, 5879 Hwy. 9, Lockport, MB R1A 2P7.
