PATRICK EDWARD BOYCE We lost Pat unexpectedly to a stroke on June 27, 2014 at the age of 67. He slipped away peacefully listening to Bob Dylan cranked on his headphones while surrounded by family and friends. Pat will be missed and loved by his partner Heather Cram; their children Laurel and Tim Hogan, and Ben Cram and Terra Ogawa; grandchildren Olivia, Finn, Tomi and Keiko; sister and brother-in-law Lesley and Zoltan Kiss; his nephew Jesse (Teresa), niece Jennifer (Ash) and their children; close friends Lee Kirkpatrick, Ann Szabo and Duane Perkins and their families; along with many other dear friends. Pat was predeceased by his mother and father Elizabeth and Hugh Boyce. Pat was a philosopher and an artist who lived life with a unique individuality. Photography was his life's passion and for the past 37 years he has been exploring his world through the lens of a camera. We feel blessed to have his work as a reminder of his creative soul. Pat loved nature and had many fond childhood memories of canoeing and lake life. He felt most at home on the water, surrounded by white pines. Pat made the cabin at Lac Lu into a haven for our family. Here he enjoyed paddling his cedar strip canoe with Heather and his grandchildren, and sitting in his rocky lookouts taking in the view of that classic northern Ontario landscape. Pat was also an audiophile with an addiction for music of all kinds. His ever-increasing stacks of CD's spilled throughout the living room and he could often be found centered between the speakers with a glass of good Scotch in hand and a favourite disk turned up loud. But his most distinguishing characteristic was his capacity for love, and his great kindness and generosity. Pat connected with people in an exceptional way and when he gave of his heart he gave it all. There was no one like him; his absence will be sorely felt. The family would like to extend thanks to Ann Szabo, Lee Kirkpatrick, and the many other dear friends who rushed to Pat's side; and to the staff of the Health Sciences Centre MICU, particularly Dr. Eric Jacobsohn and Miranda, the caring nurse who helped Pat through his final day. A celebration of Pat's life will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, 300 Memorial Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6 or a charity of your choice. • I am sorry to hear of Pat's passing. As well as neighbours, Pat and I were great childhood "buddies". Many good times playing sports together and stealing some of his Mom and Dad's homebrew Saki on a Saturday night. • Our thoughts are with you and the family. Looks like Pat crammed a lot in his 67 years including many years of mutual happiness with you, Heather. I guess that if there is any consolation, it's the knowledge that people may pass on, but true love and happy memories do not, and they remain whether the other party is physically present or not. Lots of love, Mona and Ashley - Posted by: Ashley and Mona Raynor (Friends of Heather) on: Jul 04, 2014

  • Dear Heather, I met Pat when he was the teacher aide at the Montessori alternative program I helped to start...he should have been the teacher. He was magic then and only became more wonderful with time. I was so thrilled when you two got together. A light has certainly gone out in the world. How lucky you were to share it all those years. My love to you and your family, particularly Laurel... Leslie kelly - Posted by: Leslie Kelly () on: Jul 03, 2014
