Date of Passing: Jun 27, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS (JOE) MCLEOD It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joe McLeod on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the age of 56. Joe was born on September 1, 1957 to Norman (deceased) and Adrienne McLeod in Eriksdale, MB. Those who knew Joe well will remember him for his teasing and his easy going nature. One would never know what story he would come up with next, or what voice was coming out over the phone. He really enjoyed a good visit with family and friends. He loved to have people around and also enjoyed playing cards and dice around the kitchen table. If he had no visitors, he made sure to give someone a call. Many of us will miss his many daily calls, even if it was during the Jets or Bombers games to discuss a recent play or a botched call. Joe had many friends that he met over the years who will cherish many memories, whether it be from his hockey days, his hanging out days, or his working days there are a lot of great times that were had. He started his work history with Manitoba Hydro where he worked until his father passed away. He then took care of Nan and stayed around home and worked at the Lundar Curling Rink and then the Lundar Bakery. He also enjoyed his time at home as he was able to help coach a wonderful ball team with his brother Richard. His latest job took him to many different places where he learned many different things and especially loved learning about the northern way of life and their culture. It was when he was working for The Northwest Company that he started his collection of soap sculptures that he was extremely proud of. Joe is predeceased by his father Norman, sister Norma Magnusson and brother-in-law Carl Magnusson as well as many aunts and uncles. He leaves to mourn his mother Adrienne McLeod, brothers and sisters; Will, Louis (Brenda), Annette (John), Richard (Pat), Denise (Wayne), Larry (Sheryl), and Robin; as well as his nieces and nephews who were so dear to him, but especially Rene. All of his nieces and nephews will remember how he taught them the art of "storytelling" how to arm wrestle and his Joe 90 holds. He will also be missed by many friends near and far. A memorial service for Joe will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Lundar Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. A private family interment will follow at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are Marcel Lavallee, Joe (Trapper) Ganton, Desmond Gould, Warren (Pong) Lavallee, Doug (Rub) Fingland, Danny Burdett, Bruce Desjarlais, Brent Palsson, and David (Buns) Burdett. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Grettir New Building Fund, Grettir Coop Inc., PO Box 334, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0. The family would like to thank everyone for their support at this time. My most sincere condolences to all the family on your loss. Although it has been years since I have seen Joe, I have recently had the opportunity to chat on the phone with him on a couple of occasions while visiting with Louis and Brenda, he had not changed one bit from the guy I knew. Again, I am sorry for your loss, I know that he has left a big hole in alot of lives, but keep the memories alive. Sincerely, Earla. - Posted by: Earla Knowles () on: Jul 03, 2014

Joe was a fantastic, hilarious fun fun person to be around. I have so many good memories of our younger years-and also later times. It was never awkward starting a conversation after not seeing each other for a long time. A sense of humour that will be sadly missed! His light will stay with us. - Posted by: CarolBurdett (Friend) on: Jul 02, 2014

So very sorry to hear this sad news, my condolences to Doug's family and friends. Growing up in a small town where everyone knew each other, Doug was a friend to all, his big smile and joking way made him fun to be around. May the many memories of your times spent together give you comfort during this difficult time. Joe 90 will live on in our hearts forever ♥ - Posted by: Brendice Price (Breckman) () on: Jul 01, 2014
